Every year before John when Sherlock was alone on Christmas.

He doesn't expect it to be any differant this year than it has ever been.

Even as a child, when Mummy would host parties and have dozens of adults over he never had anyone to celebrate with.

Mycroft, so much older than him, was already too old to make it special by the time Sherlock got old enough to realize he was supposed to find Christmas an amazing and wonderful thing instead of being forced to stay in his room until he fell asleep instead of being allowed to be downstairs where he wasn't as well trained as Mycroft and couldn't be trusted not to embarrass his parents.

When he was older, at Uni, he had no friends to invite him home with them or to stay out all night with.

As a junkie he hadn't cared about Christmas except that it made it harder to find his regular dealers.

Then Lestrade had stumbled across him at one of his murder scenes and Sherlock had gotten clean. There were a few people he came to expect to have to exchange seasons greetings with but even they always had plans that didn't include him.

Oh, Mycroft extended an invitation to whatever posh party he'd been invited to that year but Sherlock suspected that it was yet one more attempt by Mycroft to not only gain affluence but also to trick Sherlock into a position to be knighted.

Generally, Sherlock had no one on this day of fellowship and joy and he didn't expect it to change just because he had met John. But right up until Christmas eve John makes no move to pack so much as an overnight bag in preperation for attending whatever festivies catch his fancy. It's not as though he hasn't gotten offers, in fact he's gotten dozens but Sherlock's heard him decline everyone, stating a previous engagement.

All day Sherlock waits. Waits to hear the sound of John getting ready. Waits to hear the front door slam as John goes out.

Waits to be alone again.

John doesn't get dressed in the morning. Instead he sits around in his pajamas and opens his presents before getting up and making breafast. He scowls and grumbles at Sherlock until Sherlock opens his own. (Pointless since he deduced what they were weeks ago.)

John gets dressed in the afternoon and goes downstairs but he doesn't leave, he just spends several hours in Mrs Hudson's flat. It is just after 5 pm that John comes up and insists that Sherlock join the two of them for dinner.

It's wonderful, but then, Mrs Hudson has always been a fantastic cook.

As the time nears eight o'clock John changes back into his pajamas, clearly not intending to go anywhere.

"Did your plans get cancelled?" Sherlock asked, feigning indifferance.

John looked at him strangely.

"No, they went off perfectly. Which is odd, since I was sure I was going to have to argue more with you about eating dinner." John went back to watching the Dr Who Christmas Special.

"But you didn't do anything at all today." Sherlock hated being confused.

John sighed and turned to face Sherlock.

"How long have we been in this relationship?" John asked.

"Six months and four days." Sherlock replied, wondering where John was going with this.

"So why would you think I would want to spend today with anyone but you? Even if Harry had invited me to share her celebrations I wouldn't have left you at home, regardless of what you and Harry might say to each other." John leaned forward and pressed a sweet kiss to Sherlock's cheek. "I love you."

Conversation quickly fell by the wayside.

Later, as he lay watching John sleep, Sherlock mused that it had been the best Christmas ever.

At long last Sherlock and John are getting married.

Much to everybody's surprise he enlists both Mycroft and Lestrade as his groomsmen (Harry and Clara had nabbed John the second the announcement was made).

Nobody expected Sherlock to be such a difficult groom to manage though - determined as he is for everything to be perfect.

Through their joint suffering acting as the balm between a legitimately stressed out Sherlock and the rest of the world, Mycroft and Lestrade slowly grow closer

tl;dr Sherlock and John get married, and Mycroft and Lestrade and Sherlock's groomsmen - they grow closer together during the run up to the wedding

Just a Britpick note for writers. We don't have Groomsman in the UK, in fact I'm not even sure what they are. For a church wedding you would have a Best Man and possibly some Ushers but for a civil ceremony you'd probably only have your two witnesses.

Father Holmes decides to follow Sherlock around for a day, to see what his son really does, besides lie about in his robe and torment his violin.

He's quite charmed by Molly and they end up having a bit of a fling, nothing serious, but they both take an inordinate amount of delight in teasing Sherlock and Mycroft about 'if we wed, we don't expect you to call Molly 'Mummy'"

Molly and Mr Holmes are happy, Sherlock's squirming and John's pissing himself laughing is what I'd like, please.

John thinks that 'Sherlock Holmes' is a fake name, he takes that as a subtle hint that 'Sherlock' doesn't want to see him again after that night despite the fact that it was mind-blowing. He respects that and decides not to try and contact him.

Sherlock ends up wanting to see John again but doesn't hear back from him.

CUE LOTS OF H/C WHEN THEY REUNITE DURING A STUDY IN PINK, I would adore a happy ending.

does someone want to make a fic out of my headcanon?

In the process of dealing with Sherlock Irene meets and fall in love with Harry. They shack up and form an epic investigating duo the likes the world has (almost never) seen.

But one day whilst investigating a series of mysterious disappearances Irene and Harry are thrown back in time (either the rift or the weeping angels? Or something else?) to the Victorian era. They end up meeting Madame Vastra and Jenny and the 4 girls realise that not only do they get on like a house on fire, they also work rather well as a team. Cue many bamfing, time-travelling, lesbian, thespian, Victorian, Silurian adventures.

tl:dr- Irene gets together with Harry and they're thrown back in time to form an alliance with Madame Vastra and Jenny

I dunno, it got stuck in my head after watching the sequel. (Spoilers for the sequel, I guess?)

There's a bomb threat, and Sherlock has to piece the clues together to figure out where the bomb is and get to it and disarm it before it goes off.

After a false lead takes him to the wrong place he figures out the right one. But the second he figures out where it is something strikes a memory, Mycroft had briefly mentioned (during one of the forced-upon him 'sibling chats') that he would be attending business at that very place.

They rush to get there and arrive just in time to see the bomb go off.

Sherlock freaks out.

(Whether Mycroft was injured/killed/not in the explosion at all is up to the author, I just want some "Aww, he really does care" angst. No incest please, just not my cup of tea.)

(Bonus points if Sherlock cries. I am a horrible person)

And hey, if you want to take this further...

The guy by the pool? That's not Jim Moriarty; that's the real Lestrade, undercover. The DI Lestrade we know? That's Moriarty - he worked his way up through NSY just to get closer to Sherlock Holmes.

Or: any other crazy character-switching you can think of!

JOHN is the Avatar, and his Avatar training was going quite well until his injuries in Afghanistan made it difficult and painful to bend.

Sherlock, who is a frustrated and normally extremely jealous non-bender, puts all the effort he can spare into John's rehabilitation so he can do his Avatar-ly duties and have his sense of self-worth back. "Because nothing's so hard as living without a purpose," said The World's Only Consulting Detective.

Moriaty, meanwhile, can bend. He thinks that if he kills the Avatar, he can find his reincarnation when it's born through his criminal network and have himself a superweapon. All he needs to do is get past the most interesting non-bender he's ever paid attention to...

Once Upon A Time...

Once upon a time, there was a little prince with a heart that was just too big for his chest.

It was strong and it was sturdy, and it pittered and it pattered. Sometimes it raced, sometimes it dropped, and sometimes it skipped, but it always continued on beating, firm and full of blood. And sometimes, it even felt like it would overwhelm his mind - which was strange, because that felt like it was often too big for the world itself. It was quite the anomaly.

One day, however, the little prince learned something. He learned that other people didn't have such reliable hearts. Sometimes, their hearts...stopped. That...well, that just didn't seem right to him. Hearts shouldn't do that; hearts should give life, not take it away. And, oh, that little prince, with his mind too big for the world and his heart too big for his chest, he figured out quite the solution.

Surely, he thought to himself, surely my heart's strong enough for others. Surely I have enough pieces to spare.

His brother scowled and scolded, and told him he shouldn't treat his heart so carelessly. But what did he know, anyway? All he had was a belly too big for his body.

The little prince, well, he was helping people, wasn't he? Even though sometimes their bodies still stopped working, their souls were saved and soothed with all the love and kindness his heart gave them. And that was enough...wasn't it? So, the little prince kept breaking his heart. First in halves, then fourths, then eighths, and so on, and he gave out the pieces to those whose hearts weren't working right.

Until, whilst standing in front of the mirror and seeing a chill in his eyes he'd never seen before and feeling an emptiness inside he'd never imagined possible, he realized he didn't have any more pieces to give.

He still had his mind, though, he thought hopefully. There was plenty of that to go around.

Yes, this actually is a prompt, not a story. I'm sorry I can't figure out a way to shorten it or think of an adequate TLDR. I have absolutely no idea where this came from or what to do with it, so I'm passing on the torch.

Make it literal and write a fantasy/magic AU or make it metaphorical and do a character study... Whatever you want authors.

I've been watching too much Invader Zim lately.

Mummy Holmes married the nanny

When Mycroft was ten and Sherlock was three their parents seperated. Their mother got custody but she was a bit overwhelmed and a bit busy to take care of two genius children by herself.

She hires a nanny.

Now the poor nanny finds herself up against three Holmes. She finds herself keeping Mycroft away from blackmailing and getting beat up by his peers. She has to keep little Sherlock from getting into everything he sets his sight on. She also has to deal with her employer monoploizing any free time she does get. It seems Mrs. Holmes is a tad bit posessive.

Mama Holmes falls in love but doesn't go about like a normal person. She drags the nanny on adventures, ruins any outings nanny has with men. Nanny feels like she's taking care of three children. I'm imagining Mama Holmes is where Sherlock gets it from and Papa Holmes was the artistic/free-spirited parent.

Bonuses:

Mama Holmes has a deducing moment with the nanny. Like the cab scene between John and Sherloock in ASiP.

Mama and Papa Holmes aren't bitter or angry at each other.They just realized that they were better apart. Papa Holmes gets the boys on the weekends and for a few weeks during the summer.

Sherlock and Mycroft call Mama Holmes Mum and they call their nanny Mummy.


TL;DR: Mummy Holmes hires a nanny to help with the boys. The poor nanny is roped into the Holmes adventures. She becomes Mummy to the boys and Mama Holmes finds love

Sherlock and Mycroft must spend a week doing one another's jobs and living one another's lives.

It's Mummy who decides. She insists that, after years of increasingly acrimonious sibling rivalry between her sons, what they need is to understand one another better. Its her responsibility to take steps 'make them grow up a bit'. As someone a government position above even Mycroft its not difficult for her to set up.

Bonuses for: Preventing World War III (Sherlock is terrible at diplomacy), Mycroft finding he actually likes legwork.

Up to you whether John and not!Anthea swap too or whether they each just learn to cope with their new 'colleague'.

Something happens to John that cripples him physically and mentally (up to you what 'something' means). It means he'll need constant care and supervision for the rest of his life. Since Harry died a few years previously, this somehow falls to Sherlock.

Everyone assumes Sherlock will abandon him because he's "not really John anymore." They encourage him to find another caregiver or put him in hospice somewhere.

Sherlock's response is along the lines of "Fuck you, he'll always be my John," and never leaves his side for the rest of their lives.

Gen/friendship preferred on this one. :)

Mystrade confusion

Everyone is confused when, one day, Mycroft drops Lestrade off to a crime scene, going to far as to kiss him goodbye. Even Sherlock is... confused. The two of them had never spoken, never interacted, never even glanced at each other before that day. When the hell did Mystrade happen? And isn't Lestrade married? And Mycroft as well? HOW DID IT HAPPEN?

It's actually been going on for quite a long time - our two hansom devils are just very good at hiding it and they wore wedding rings to keep up the ruse.

Why?

They were bored and placed a stupid, stupid bet. Whoever could hide it better won. Obviously Lestrade wasn't counting on this bet to last years, but he's glad when it's over. The winner is the one who gets to officially propose. and because Mycroft caved first Lestrade won. 'Bout bloody time.
