+re: hijacking.

Please refrain from hijacking a prompt. Hijacking may be defined as responding to a prompt by taking a portion of it and adding your own ideas about what should be added, changed or eliminated. In addition, commenting with off topic jokes or chatter.

By hijacking, the focus of the prompt can be lost, and inappropriate threads created. By doing this fillers may be discouraged which is something no one wants to experience.

If a prompt leads you to an original idea, please create your own prompt. The chatter or love posts are the proper places to share jokes or talk about prompts that have inspired you.

“Offended, that’s a laugh. You’re the first one night stand I ever wanted a second night with. And the last. But I thought you didn’t want to see me. I never thought I’d tell you all this.”

“Why are you telling me, then?”

“Well, obviously, you’re not real. You’re a demon or something.

Sherlock decided, in that moment, to do something impulsive. It isn’t so much that impulsiveness was unknown to Sherlock Holmes, or that it was something he avoided, but until now his associations with John Watson had been carefully calculated for the best possible result. Nonetheless, something told him that it had to be done.

In three steps, Sherlock Holmes crossed the lab and kissed John Watson square on the lips. It was short, no tongue, but when he pulled away they were both panting.

“Real enough for you?”

“Yeah. God, I-“

Sherlock leaned in. John smelled faintly of formaldehyde and lavender. “Yes?”

“I can’t do this, Sherlock. It isn’t healthy.”

“You like it, I like it, what’s wrong?”

“It isn’t normal, Sherlock. People don’t fuck once and then fall in love years later.”

“No, you’re right, they don’t.”

“Then what’s the problem? Why are you so insistent on making this into something? Why can’t you just move on like an adult?”

John’s volume slowly escalated until Sherlock was quite sure the entire building had heard him. There was a lengthy silence.

“You’re wrong about me, John.”

“Oh really? Well, maybe I should try some deductions, hmm? You’re brilliant, unbelievably smart, but that brain makes you think that you know what’s going on in other people’s heads. The problem is, we’re not all so infinitely brilliant and rational as you. So sometimes you’re wrong, and you hate being wrong, so instead of learning how to deal with people you just shut them all out, and those that you don’t drive away with pure willpower tend to leave on their own. The only thing I can’t understand is why I can’t be like the rest of them. You let everyone else go, so why cling on to me?”

There was another silence, and John moved the corpse onto a lab table. Sherlock could barely remember what he wanted to test on the body, and just stared at it for a moment. You’re lucky. Everyone who loved you when you died gets to remember you that way forever. You can’t ruin it with them anymore.

Sherlock found his voice. He might have one more chance to make it right. “Yes.”

“What?”

“You’re right about me, John. All of that was right, except one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“This… thing. That you think I’ve just come up with now. Me caring about you. That’s not new. That’s not from today; it’s not from when you got sent home wounded or when I met Mike or even when you enlisted in the first place. It’s from that night we first met, and you laid on top of me and threaded your fingers in my hair and I felt safe. And loved. And I’d never felt that way before, not even at home as a child, and I wanted to feel it again.”

“Fuck, you really are crazy. I’ll be back in forty-five minutes. I hope you won’t be here.”

He walked out the door, and Sherlock waited until he was well down the hall before letting out a sob.
