+re: hijacking.
Please refrain from hijacking a prompt. Hijacking may be defined as responding to a prompt by taking a portion of it and adding your own ideas about what should be added, changed or eliminated. In addition, commenting with off topic jokes or chatter.
By hijacking, the focus of the prompt can be lost, and inappropriate threads created. By doing this fillers may be discouraged which is something no one wants to experience.
If a prompt leads you to an original idea, please create your own prompt. The chatter or love posts are the proper places to share jokes or talk about prompts that have inspired you.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-14 07:21 am (UTC)(link)Given his rather profound lack of experience in making someone like him (his usual relationship was brief and tumultuous), he did what anyone with his mind would do.
Research.
The man's name had turned out to be John Hamish Watson, born in London, good grades but an IQ close enough to average that he must have worked for them. He was on his last year, but his course schedule had been so rigorous that many of his classes were partial repeats of what he's studied before (so he didn't fail last year. Ah. There's always something.).
John's mother was dead, and his mother looked to be going the same way, so his only family of real importance was an older sister named Harry. He liked Italian, but was only lukewarm towards curries. Sherlock was sure that he could deduce John's number, but decided that if he had offended the older man in some way it was best to keep to himself.
The only thing Sherlock couldn't figure out was what he had done wrong. John had been received warmly into Sherlock's home, satisfied sexually, and offered a meal. In his experience, that counted as a perfectly adequate date.
Sherlock considered going to their chemistry lab, but decided that even John H. Watson wasn't worth that kind of boredom.
He tried to bake an apology cake, but he burnt three of them and the fourth somehow melted the cake pan to the oven.
He walked to the flat John shared with Mike six times, but never worked up the courage to ring the doorbell.
And in between these activities, he sat in front of his phone and waited. Sometimes he prayed to deities he didn't quite believe in, or answered breathlessly only to realize that his brother Mycroft was on the other end, but mainly it was a lot of quiet violin playing.
It had used to be just regular violin playing, but then the downstairs neighbor threatened to call the RSPCA so he dug out his practice mute. He thought it was a joke, but he needed a guarantee they didn't find the experiments in his freezer.

It had been over three years since The John Watson Incident when Sherlock found Mike Stamford.
He knew it was Mike Stamford because Mike had been John's best friend, and when he introduced himself the other man had laughed and then looked very sad.
People usually stopped at the first part.
"I think he loved you, in a way," was all Mike would say about it. Sherlock decided it wasn't fair to ask more.
He did anyway.
"Did I say something to him? Did he have trouble looking me up? Was there someone else already?"
"It's not for me to say, Sherlock," was the only answer he ever received.
Sherlock thought Mike resented him a little bit for disappointing John.
He would have told Mike all about how it was the other way around, but they both already knew that. Until John was home, it was more comfortable all around to maintain this polite fiction where Sherlock could apologise and all would be forgiven.
Neither of them really thought it would happen.
In fact, when Sherlock asked Mike to re-introduce him when John got back, he received only a curt "fuck off" and a hurt glare. Something had gone much more thoroughly wrong than he had hypothesized. And none of his experiments could work out why.

When word about him came through Harry, Sherlock and Mike held their breaths together and listened to her voice through the minute phone speaker. Sherlock wanted- no, needed- John to come home soon.
He also needed John to come home alive.
All Sherlock knew was that John had been injuted somewhere overseas. Harry wouldn't give them any details. Or couldn't, judging by the sheer volume of gin she had consumed. Sherlock wondered breifly if John liked gin, too (it had been his first guess when they had kissed in the back of that taxi), but then remembered that John had been nursing a lager the night they'd met.
Mycroft, who had tried to stay out of Sherlock's obsession, pulled some strings and had John rushed back to London. Now all Sherlock had to do was find him.

More tomorrow. Trying not to make peopele wait. Assuming anyone has seen it, which is assuming quite a lot really.
