If we don't get a s3, this will be my new headcanon (WARNING, SPOILERS)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I've read ACD's The Final Problem and The Empty House more times than I can count so I know what happens, but if we will never get a s3 for this or that reason my headcanon is already entertaining this idea: the very last shot of Sherlock watching John walk away from his tomb from his hidden spot among the trees.

Canon: that's Sherlock Holmes in flesh and bones, alive and well and ready to kick Moriarty's criminal network in the balls.

Headcanon if s3 doesn't happen: that's Sherlock's ghost, watching over John and Mrs Hudson and Lestrade and Molly and everybody else.

Headcanon is making it all much more heartbreaking. Although it could mean Moriarty's ghost is roaming free as well, imagine the glorious ghostly battles of wits.

Now for the rant, directed to a very specific person: I know canon, thank you very much, I know Sherlock's not dead. Stop saying the idea I'm entertaining about Sherlock being a ghost in that last shot is only what idiots who haven't read ACD canon think. I'm just having fun, for fuck's sake, stop ruining it.

Re: If we don't get a s3, this will be my new headcanon (WARNING, SPOILERS)

There will be s3, it's not a question any more.

Ghosts are a different genre.

spoilers for Reichenbach and the tie-in websites

I honestly thought they were going to edit Sherlock's website (either John taking it down or adding something on his memory, or hackers who think Sherlock's a fraud ruining and writing terrible things, stuff like that) but nothing's happening. I'm a bit disappointed about that...

Why do I do this to myself?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Currently downloading A Game of Shadows, have just finished watching The Reichenbach Fall, and wondering why on earth I decided that watching two adaptations of the same heart-wrenching event in a single night. Already weepy, probably shouldn't be inflicting sad!Jude upon myself along with sad!Martin.

WHY DO I DO THIS? I'M ALREADY EMOTIONALLY FRAUGHT.

(also, sleep is probably a better idea, what with work tomorrow today and all...)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh for flying fuck's sake - I've lost Moriarty's voice. After watching the Fall I just can't do it. Damn you WIP. I can't even write letters any more.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
If this is who I think it is, I'm the OP of that prompt. Maybe give it a bit of time and it'll come back to you? Your Moriarty doesn't have to equal canon Moriarty either, if thats what you're worried about. Plenty of great fics subtly change or just ignore canon.

Regardless you've done a fantastic job so far so if you don't write anymore I'll be saddened, but thanks for everything so far anyway. <3 Whether you finish or not its one of the better fills I've ever had.

And if this is NOT that author...ILU anyway and the meme can never have too many fills.

This is a rant (sort of) about Moriarty. Also, here be SPOILERS.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Having read ACD canon and watched a few adaptations (the Russian series, the Granada series, some of the older movies, etc.) I expected modern!Jim Moriarty to be less old and dusty, yes, but still cold and firm and calculating like the original Professor Moriarty. Boy I was wrong: Jim is camp, over the top, fabulous in his manners, thinks bigger than I've ever seen a Moriarty do. He was very different from what I expected, knowing canon and its various adaptation, but I wasn't disappointed at all: I loved this modern Moriarty, I absolutely loved him.

But. During s1 I thought he was just a bit eccentric, a showy villain who liked games and dramatic villain phrases. Turns out during s2 he was actually really completely crazy. A genius, yes, but still crazy. For who in their right minds would rather kill themselves and lose their money, their power, their life in order to win a war? No villain ever does that, everybody wants to win and live to tell the tale and celebrate. But not him, no, he'd rather commit suicide than lose. I suppose he'll never be bored now.

I absolutely loved Reichenbach, I really did, I thought it was a brilliant episode and all the twists still shocked me even if I knew canon, I was never bored throughout the viewing. But I'm really not sure how I feel about Moriarty: I love his character as I always did, but... do I like the crazy angle they took with this modern portrayal? How would things have been if he'd been like canon!Moriarty, determined to win but not crazy? Did they take it too far from canon? Or maybe canon!Moriarty was crazy too, just not as noticeable as it was for Jim?

Idk, really. It all worked but my brain is still unsure whether or not crazy!Moriarty was a clever and interesting twist or taking it too far. Or both.

Re: This is a rant (sort of) about Moriarty. Also, here be SPOILERS.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Moriarty. As in, as a character. But like you said, I didn't get just how crazy he was until now. Not 'crazy' but deeply, psychologically, hard-wired differently. Bone deep.

He didn't just have crazy ideas and plots like most villains, he wasn't just not caring for how society works. He was psychologically disturbed. He actually was a psychopath and then more. I don't even -

And that was the thing that creeped me out. People who are violent, people who want money and love and power and revenge are all - well, normal. Even if they go about it in twisted ways they're all still normal. This Moriarty wasn't. I really didn't know what he was going to do, I just couldn't place him in my schema of 'how people work'.

'09 film Moriarty wasn't like that at all. And that's why he immediately faded into the background after the film was over. They're both geniuses but cold and reptile-like doesn't grab like psychopath does. Almost anyone can have a stiff upper lip; very few can separate themselves from fundamental human characteristics. And even then with Moriarty you get the impression that he's still acting 'normal', that inside his head it's so much worse.

tl;dr: I love this Moriarty and making him genuinely crazy made him even better.

about titles

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
For fuck's sake, wonderful fillers, please please please put something more in the subject line of your fill than just "Fill, 1/?" or "1/?", it's incredibly difficult to keep up with updates of your WIP if it gets lost among all the other ones who have a similar subject line!

I want to read stuff, I do, but damn try to make it a little easier for us: think of a quick title to make your fics stand out, something.

If you have difficulties choosing a title I can totally understand, it's not as easy as it seems, but sometimes even one-word titles work: choose a particular key-word that you keep using in your fill or the first thing that comes to mind that sums up the main plot or the main character, google a few of the key-words of your story and look for a quote, put your player on shuffle and find a line of lyrics that could fit and put. it. in. that. subject. line!

Captcha!Mycroft says: ENOUGH RoWith, I guess he's had enough too and he's going to take a tour on his row boat to relax.

Really, I shouldn't be so upset about getting jossed, but...

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck! I've been trying to get finished an old story that was nearly completed except for one section that hinged on John's reaction to Reichenbach, which I was thoroughly and completely stuck on. Since I'd been blocked for so long and canon was about to catch me up, I decided to be logical and wait so that I had canon to work from. Sensible, yes?

Except that canon has completely jossed a whole, completed-except-for-polishing section and now I have to rewrite two sections out of five. Thank you so much, Sally and Anderson for making it impossible for that scene to work - I really liked what was going on there!

Reichenbach... (SPOILERS)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'm still trying to process Reichenbach.

BC, MF and AS were at the top of their acting game. I can't believe that we saw...

It was a wonderful emotional wringer.

Re: Reichenbach... (SPOILERS)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
This, all of it.

I especially loved Martin's perfomance, it was golden, absolutely flawless.
Andrew was fantastic, utterly magnificent, gave me chills during the whole rooftop scene.
Benedict's subtle changes were elegantly executed, I think this is the best he's ever been as Sherlock.

I also saw a lot of emotion coming from Mycroft: in ASIb I saw him as a desperate man, seeing his plans crumble and fall, but in Reichenbach... I saw human regret, human, I've never seen Mycroft so human, it was beautifully heartbreaking.

MUSIC. (and spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I know this is the rant post, but let's assume me getting my sorrow out is a form of ranting :

THIS MUSIC. THIS FUCKING MUSIC. Sherlock's ost is absolutely magnificent!!

I have very strong emotional responses to music and noises in general... And the music that played while Sherlock was just about to jump, and the music at the cemetery... It completely killed me. I am actually dead right now. Emotionally, at least. I would have been able to see the whole thing without crying if it wasn't for the music! Damnit this music hurts my poor heart.

(I also approve of the music during Moriarty's little dance in the Tower, and his arrest. And the Bee Gees. Every music was perfect to my ears.)

Re: MUSIC. (and spoilers)

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
This this this.

Some of the songs chosen to be in the background were definitely surprising: Stayin' Alive, Sinnerman, bold and surprising choices, that's for sure, but they worked perfectly in my opinion.

And the score, the score, I just love it. I also had a soft spot for the piece in ASIB that Sherlock composes for Irene, you can hear it well and the end of the episode, it was a little heartbreaking but also a little sweet and hopeful, playful but it keeps you on edge, a bit like their relationship, whoever composed it is a genius. And the score for Reichenbach, good God: the cemetery scene could have been done in silence and it would have had much more impact, I thought at first, but no no no, that score and that scene complimented each other perfectly, as if one couldn't have been done without the other.

Wonderful, all of it, music and score ♥

SPOILERS FOR 2X03--just a thought

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Spoiler space...scroll...

I can't help but think that John's line, "Friends protect people", or whatever it was, had to be running through Sherlock's head when he was on the roof. In the S1 finale, the question was, "Would caring about those people help save them?" and the answer was no. This time, the answer is yes...and Sherlock, with John's help, has finally got to the point where he can care about people.

Oh, er, rant. A YEAR, MAYBE TWO, MAYBE THREE, BEFORE ANOTHER SERIES, WE DON'T EVEN KNOW, GRRRRR, ARGH, HOW WILL I EVER SURVIIIIIIIIIVE?!?!?!%$#$%#

Moffat and Gatiss said via twitter that s3 was commissioned the same time as s2, so I assume they already scheduled more or less everything with cast and crew, which means that hopefully it won't be as difficult to bring everybody back together as it took for shooting s2. Have faith! :)

I don't knooow these things, university

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm applying to study at university as a mature student starting next September. On the forms, one of the questions is along the lines of: do you have any learning difficulties or disabilities? What additional help will you require?

I don't even know how to start answering the second question! I have quite severe dyspraxia but it was only diagnosed as an adult due to difficulties I was having at work. I never received help for it at school and was instead thought of as the weird quirky kid with bad handwriting who never handed her homework in on time. I have a lot of difficulties with planning, timekeeping and memory, as well as the more obvious difficulties such as coordination, terrible spatial awareness, etc. Now, unless they're expecting me to catch balls in class, the spatial awareness thing shouldn't be a problem. But how do you help someone who has no practical awareness of how long ten minutes is? Who is continually either far too early or too late for things because she can't tell if she has time to tidy the house before leaving? Who can't remember where she left her notes, and can't read them when she's found them?

I wish they knew how to help me because I've got no idea.

Re: I don't knooow these things, university

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
One of the things a University will help you with is the technology to support your timekeeping issues, they will also allow you extensions on your assessed work and possibly some assistance in the work planning process. A lot of it depends on the course you are applying for, different courses will need different coping strategies, and which University you end up at.

The only reason I abstain from having sex for money is because I don't think I would get enough money to do it. I mean, I'd charge like $100 for a blow job right now. When that amount drops to $20..... well.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You get to set your own prices and don't necessarily have to adjust them for the market rate. If you wouldn't give a blowjob for less than $100, charge $100 for a blowjob. A lot of the time it's about quality and "experience" rather than quantity or price.

double post sorry

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Everything hurts so much right now. I just can't do this any more. I genuinely thought that maybe the pain was just a teenage thing and it would stop when puberty did. It wasn't and it didn't. It amazes me that people I interact with every day can't see that there's nothing behind the face they talk to; if there ever was a soul here, it shrivelled up and died years ago.

This body and the pain are the only things that are left. I'm sorry if that sounds melodramatic but it's true. I have no friends and my family are pretty much done with me (birth family, not one I've made myself). I'm not going to kill myself; I have neither the means nor the opportunity. I just want to know that someone out there somewhere has hope. Maybe I can reflect it even if I can't make my own.

I'm going to be very shallow, but wasn't it extremely hot when John and Sherlock were handcuffed and John grabbed at his coat and said: "We are going to have to coordinate"

It was scorching hot.

Re: Spoilers

(Anonymous) 2012-01-16 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
The most obvious solution would be for Sherlock to carry John on his back. And then gradually he becomes aware of an erection pressing into his back. Of course John would deny this, saying, "No, it's not what you think! It's all the friction from bouncing around!" But Sherlock would see through that and it dawns on him that he feels similarly about John, and then they take a breather in an alleyway...

ahem. Excuse me.

People on the prompt post, could you slow down a little? As a filler, I don't have the energy to skim through every prompts, there are too many... And then when I find one I like, there are already a hundred more before I can even write the first sentence!

Could you just... prompt only the prompts you really want to be filled and not every single idea that passes through your brain? I like how this meme is lively, but kick it down a notch please. Too many prompts in too little time discourage me. And it's sort of depressing to see pages and pages of prompts without a single fill.

I try to only prompt on the one in, one out basis, meaning I won't post a prompt until I've written a fill. It makes me think hard about what I really want to read.
