Generally, I'm pretty okay with who I am, but there is one thing that really annoys me about myself. I embarrass really easily. Misunderstanding the cashier at a store and giving them the wrong change is enough to send me into a shame spiral and seeing a typo in an anonymous comment after I've posted it is enough to make me blush. The logical part of my brain tells me it's no big deal, but the part of my brain that is obviously still a stuttering, painfully shy fifth grader screams, "HIDE!" at me.

I just really wish it would stop.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not alone. The vast majority of the time, I'm cheerful and confident. But I'll do or say something stupid/inept which any other person would shake off with no problem, but I'll obsess about it for days. It'll send me into a spiral of depression that leaves me struggling to even get out of bed for days. If I think of something embarrassing that happened to me elementary school, I still get depressed about it even twenty years later.

In other words: sympathetic fist bump.

So I had a pretty nice dream involving BC and his (probably bigger than IRL) cock, and me performing oral sex on him.

Well apparently two minutes later BC transforms into some kind of old disgusting 80's rocker and starts chasing me throughout the dream and I wake up right after he stops in his chasing and starts being creepy on random children.

Meme, I present you my brain, the biggest cockblock in the universe.

Okay I must say that Moffat is growing on me. He's a shit writer on occasion, but if I were him I'd totally abuse on the teasing too, it just seems so amusing.

rl friends, stop telling me to calm down about the fall. i'm perfectly aware of how melodramatic i'm being; it's how i cope with feeling deeply, and i'm letting myself be caught up in the crazy hype of this episode. yes, i know it's going to be okay, and i'm familiar with the empty house. i know i'm being silly. as twisted as it may be, angsting is, in part, my idea of fun. (it's the point, anyway, fiction causing emotional reaction.) bring me a pack of tissues, brew some tea for me, give me a blanket for my shock, or just stay away for a while. but let me wallow in my angst. i want to.

You're the fandom police. It's not up to you to determine who is and isn't a "real" Sherlock fan. No, I'm not crying all the tears in my body over (probably) Sherlock's (most likely entirely fake) death, or being hysterical and reblogging ALL THE REICHENBACH POSTS, or posting crying gifs everytime I think of the spoilery pics, or planning to film myself as I watch TRF and send then the video to Mofftiss. (Which, btw, is a horrible idea.)

It doesn't make me a "fake" fan. It doesn't make me unworthy of being in the fandom. It doesn't invalidate everything else I do here (writing fic and discussing the episodes come to mind) simply because I'm actually looking forward to watching the episode and I don't really mind the angst.

So please stop saying people like me shouldn't be in the fandom in the first place because we don't act like "everybody else" (your words, not mine). Thanks.

(Rant very much not related to the one above — there are tons of different ways we'll all be reacting to Reichenbach, and they're all pretty much legit. But they're not an indication of how "real" a fan we are. :|)

It comes up in iPlayer a little bit after the episode finishes airing, it's not live.

When I was on antidepressants (I took them for about two years), I stopped being able to cry. I haven't needed to take them in almost a year but I still can't really cry. I get to a certain point where I feel like there might be tears but nothing ends up happening. It's so frustrating for me. I wish I could just cry. And on some level I'm kind of jealous of everyone who's like "the episode hasn't even started and I'm already in tears". I feel like a robot or something and I wish I could cry, even over something like this.

Dear Dog,

I'm so sorry. So, so sorry. I was selfish. You were old and in pain, but I loved you too much to let you go even when your back legs started failing. I'm not sorry I finally called the vet and I hope you're in a better place and at peace. I'm so angry at myself for not being strong enough to call sooner.

I miss you. Please forgive me.

It sounds like all of your choices were made out of love, so I'm sure your dog felt loved and cared for.

Losing old pets is so hard, and you have my sympathy. Our dog had a handful of strokes in her last years, and it's always a tense time waiting to see how things will pan out, how much they will bounce back. You were able to make the choice eventually and spare him/her pain.

Hugs, anon. It sucks and it's gonna hurt for a while, but you'll get through it.

The End

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Meme,

This rant post has been a place where I've found humour and anger and support. I love it. Amazing that a rant post can be a place that I look forward too.

However, the main prompt post is annoyingly depressing.

See, I liked when this fandom was somewhat small. Despite the popularity of the show, the kink meme had creatove writers and prompts. Sure, we had countless prompts of "the same thing" and their was(still is?) the whole "where's the watson h/c?" wank. But, through it all, the fandom remained steady, the fills were of quality and the prompts were more. Reative and fun than they were formulaic and repetative.

Then, things changed. I can't really pinpoint when but I am nearly sure why.

Now formulaic and repetative prompts are the norm. Sherlock and John and company...so many months ago, became OOC...and that OOCness became not only acceptable, but something to strive for.

This is where I've had to take my leave. It's one thing to have different kinks. It's an entire thing altogeather when the characters I know and love become something they aren't and that thing becomes, as I said above, something to achive.

No where have I seen a collective "fanon" almost drown by a single thing.

Yes, amazing fics exist that keep Sherlock and Co. who they are. I will read them, I will comment. I will be happy

The waterfall was supposed to lead to something deep, but the final plunge was short, and the pool was very shallow.

A great man died and became a foamy cliché. A good man wasn't good enough being himself.

Re: The End

(Anonymous) 2012-01-15 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah :/ I really think the eye-roll-worthy and/or repetitive prompts did increase over the past few months. Everything is full of fanon, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes the canon isn't even recognisable any more. There are still good prompt inbetween, but it hasn't been fun or inspiring for me to read the prompt post in a long time. I can only speak for myself, of course, but I've gone back to writing my own ideas and keeping ideas to myself that I would have prompted half a year ago. Maybe it will get better after this season, with everyone having a reminder of canon and new prompt ideas relating to the new episodes? I'll have a look, but if it stays the way it has been over Christmas, it's not really my kind of thing any more.

I have all these ideas for an exchange fic and I know how I want the beginnign and the ending to go But I'm not sure how to write the middle to connect the beginning to the end. It doesn't help that I'll only get like 5 comments on the story when all the other stories written for the exchange will get liek 10 times that many. If I'm doing something wrong please tell me, so I can fix it and become a better writer.

Why do I stress myself out by signign up for exchanges anyways? It just causes a lot of unnecessary angst.

If Holmes and Watson from the 2009 Movie suddenly popped into the BBC Sherlockverse, they wouldn't perplexed by the London Underground and why are there trains underground.

They would only wonder where all the smoke went.

Even if you don't know when the Underground was built, in Game of Shadows you can see that it's being built right outside 221B Baker Street.

I didn't cry, and I was pretty sure that I would, so in that way alone it was not what I expected, except that it was definetly one of the best episodes. Sorry, I just have to get this down before it all gets forgotten. Overall, I was impressed. The tragedy and the lighter points, the tension, all balanced perfectly, and the modern spin on it was extemly clever.

I've heard their thinking of a third season, I don't think that they'll ever cancel it, not as long as the writters/directors/actors are willing and this show is getting them viewers. :)

Sorry for the probably numerous spelling mistakes!
