Filling Fest!

The Filling Fest Is Over. Thanks for everyone who participated!

Thanks to everyone who voted and shared their input. It really helped us figure out how things will go.

The fest will focus on prompts from Parts VI-VII (for those who want to fill prompts from the earlier days of the meme), and Parts XXIV-XXV (for those who want to revisit prompts from right after series two was aired. If you want to use the Filled Prompt Posts to browse through prompts, Part VI starts here, and Part XXIV starts here.

1. For the next three days, you can browse through those four parts and nominate prompts you’d like to see filled. Please include the full prompt and the link to the original prompt in your nomination. Those three days are for nominations only; don’t start posting your fills until this period is over.

2. After those three days, the nomination period will end and the filling period will begin. If you’re inspired by a nominated prompt, that’s great. If you prefer to look through those four parts and fill something that catches your eye, that’s great too. The filling period will last for two weeks.

3. All kinds of fills are welcome, as are multiple fills.

4. Anon posting is allowed, but not required.

5. Nominations without the link to the original prompt will be deleted. Same for nominations from parts other than VI, VII, XXIV and XXV.

6. Only post new fills that you haven’t posted anywhere before. If you have a WIP from one of those parts that’s gathering dust on your hard drive, it’s fine to post it, but only if you never started posting it.

7. Post your fill in this thread, but link to your fill in the original post (or in the Overflow post if the original post is full).

8. Please consider warning for triggery prompts (and also for fills, because some people read in flat view) and phrasing prompts in a manner that strives to be respectful. Things which you might want to consider warning for include: Rape/Non-Con, Death, Suicidal Thoughts, Self-Harm, Underage Relationships, among others.

9. If you have questions, please ask in the appropriate thread in this post.

One last thing: have fun!

The filling period will end on Saturday May 19th around 20:00 GMT.
Post your fill as a direct reply to THIS THREAD and please include the original prompt (or a summary of the prompt).

Someone’s life could depend
on it.
SH

(20:49)
Sherlock! You know I’m on
a date! Whatever you need,
just Google it!

(20:49)
Someone’s life it at stake.
SH

(20:52)
For God’s sake, leave me
alone! You know that thing
you used to do when you
didn’t know me and you
needed something? Do that!

(20:53)
Fine. There’s no need to be
that sensitive.
SH

May 4th
(09:12)
I saw in the paper that the
killer cabbie died in prison.
What happened?

(09:13)
Aneurism.
SH

(09:15)
Is that why he was killing
people? He had nothing to
lose.

(09:15)
Yes.
SH

(09:15)
Also, he got paid for every
person he killed.
SH

(09:16)
Who would do that?

(09:16)
Only one person: my perfect
opponent.
SH

(09:17)
Him again, eh? I've never met
the guy and I really, really
dislike him.

(09:18)
I don't understand why. Yes,
he's got a taste for the
theatrics, he has truly
appalling music taste, and
he's walking the thin line
between crazy and brilliant,
but his mind is fascinating.
SH

(09:18)
He also has very good taste
in suits.
SH

(09:20)
Look at you! You're
completely smitten with him!

(09:20)
I am not smitten!
SH

(09:21)
The guy blew up two
buildings!

(09:21)
Well, yes.
SH

(09:22)
And you're not bothered by
that?

(09:22)
He's a criminal; I don't have
high expectations of his
morals.
SH

(09:23)
It would be like being
disappointed that Jack the
Ripper didn't hold the doors
for delicate, old ladies.
SH

(09:23)
He didn't? The miscreant!

(09:23)
But that's not even what I was
talking about. He killed dozens
of people for no reason!!

(09:24)
He was playing the game, that
was his reason.
SH

(09:24)
That's not a valid reason!!!

(09:25)
Tell me, army doctor John,
what's a valid reason for
killing dozens of people?
SH

(09:26)
If you think I'm having this
discussion with a perfect
stranger, you're wrong.

(09:26)
No, tell me, I'm intrigued.
Because your country orders
you to?
SH

(09:27)
Shut up.

(09:27)
Because it happens kilometres
away and it doesn't matter?
SH

(09:28)
Seriously, shut up. Don't talk
about things you know nothing
of.

(09:28)
Is it because they're bad
people, and bad people
deserve to die? How does that
not interfere with your
Hippocratic oath?
SH

(09:29)
No, that's it, I'm out.

(09:29)
What? What did I say?
SH

(09:31)
Becoming a doctor, becoming
a soldier, those were the two
most important choices I
made in my entire life.

(09:33)
You've made your opinion
perfectly clear, and I won't
debate what I am, who I am,
with an egotistical prick who
thinks it's perfectly fine for
innocent people to die, as
long as he gets to play
superhero with his super
villain. Good luck with that.

(09:34)
John, honestly, don't be like
that.
SH

(09:38)
Fine, don't speak anymore if
you don't want to.
SH

(10:03)
It’s not like I don’t have more
important things to do.
SH

May 7th
(16:45)
How long would it take for a
corpse to decompose if it had
only been half embalmed?
SH

(18:02)
Seriously, you're still angry
about that? It was three days
ago!
SH

May 8th
(13:07)
It's surprisingly easy to
procure embalming fluids in
London. I'll test the
decomposing time of half
embalmed body parts, and
then I'll be able to give you a
clear answer, just in case
you’re interested.
SH

(13:53)
If I'm about to do something
incredibly stupid, now would
be a good time to tell me,
otherwise I'm starting the
experiment.
SH

May 10th
(19:22)
John? Are you talking to me
today?
SH

May 11th
(15:16)
An unpleasant smell is
starting to develop in my flat,
which is strange because it's
too early for my hands to be
that advanced in their
decomposition process.
SH

May 12th
(11:11)
There definitely is an
unpleasant smell in my flat. SH

May 15th
(10:54)
My landlady wasn't pleased
about the smell. I was chided
like a child for forgetting
about the jar of fingers I had
in a cupboard.
SH

(10:55)
Is one really supposed to keep
track of every single body part
they bring into their own flat?
A flat for which they pay rent?
SH

(10:57)
I knew you would agree with
me.
SH

(10:59)
She also threw away my half
embalmed hands.
SH

(11:01)
I will sneak into her flat
tonight while she's sleeping
and steal her herbal soothers.
Two can play that game.
SH

(…)

(14:13)
I must admit, John, that our
exchanges were a lot more
pleasant when you were
actually replying.
SH

May 18th
(12:38)
Are you waiting for an
apology? Because I won't
apologise.
SH

May 21st
(16:32)
I started a new experiment,
one that doesn't involve body
parts. I need to know how
well laptops can function
under heat.
SH

(16:34)
I think you would enjoy it; it
would most likely expand
your technology knowledge.
SH

May 22nd
(07:22)
You won't hear from me for
the next few days; this
experiment will require my
constant, full attention.
SH

(07:28)
Hopefully, by the time I'm
done, you will have decided
to speak with me again.
SH

May 26th
(22:46)
I've melted my laptop!
SH

May 27th
(08:13)
I need a new computer, but I
don't know what to get. Do
you have one? What do you
have?
SH

(10:17)
I think I want a Mac.
SH

May 28th
(14:48)
Apparently all one needs to
be a genius these days is a
blue T-Shirt with an apple on
it.
SH

(14:51)
Is that the secret to getting
more credibility at Scotland
Yard? I wonder where they
keep the fruit garments...
SH

May 29th
(12:45)
John, you have no idea how
stubborn I can be.
SH

May 30th
(00:34)
It would mean a lot if you
decided to speak with me
again. Just for tonight.
SH

(00:40)
John?
SH

(00:42)
Please.
SH

June 1st
(17:56)
I prefer to tell you in advance:
if you hear something on the
news about someone stealing
a bus, it was completely
necessary and it was the only
way to solve the case.
SH

June 3rd
(12:34)
Did you really steal a bus?

(12:46)
Borrowed it.
SH

(12:46)
The tourists seemed to enjoy
it.
SH

(12:47)
You stole a tourist bus?!

(12:47)
Borrowed, John.
SH

(12:48)
You’re done sulking?
SH

(12:50)
I still think you were an arse.

(12:51)
Why are you talking to me
today? I’m still an arse.
SH

(12:51)
Yeah, I’m sure you are.

(12:52)
Someone was playing the
violin.

(12:52)
What? That makes no sense.
SH

(12:54)
I am at this little sandwich
shop, having lunch, and this
beautiful violin music was
coming from one of the
windows. It was…I don’t
know how to describe it.

(12:54)
It was angry, but beautiful.

(12:55)
I still don’t understand.
SH

(12:55)
I started wondering if you
would be able to play it.

(12:56)
And it made me realise that
even if you’re an arse, I still
miss our silly conversations.

(12:56)
I would hardly describe them
as ‘silly’.
SH

(12:56)
Shut up, Sherlock, I need to
get this out.

(12:58)
I’d like to start talking to you
again, but everything about
Afghanistan and about the
army is off limits.

(12:59)
We obviously have different
views on the subject, and I
think we should be fine as
long as we avoid it.

(12:59)
What do you think?

(13:00)
Acceptable.
SH

(13:00)
Good.

(13:01)
This violin music, what was
it?
SH

(13:02)
I didn’t recognise it. It was
slow at first, almost languid.
Then, it was faster and… I
don’t know, it was aggressive
and lamenting. It was like
someone was pouring their
heart out.

(13:04)
Anyway, it sounded really
complicated.

(13:04)
You’re not very good at this.
SH

(13:04)
Well, you’re the expert.

(13:05)
Are you still at the sandwich
shop? Are they still playing?
SH

(13:06)
No, I left. I’m on my way
back to the surgery.

(13:07)
I’ll text you later tonight, all
right?

(13:07)
Good.
SH

Unsent message – (13:45)
I think it was me you heard
playing the violin. Tartini.
Devil’s Trill.

(20:02)
So, did you really steal a bus?
Because if you did, I need the
whole story.

(20:07)
Borrowed. How many times
do I have to tell you.
SH

(20:07)
Fine, borrowed. Why?

(20:07)
Are you busy?

(20:09)
Just a family dinner for my
mother’s birthday.
SH

(20:10)
Oh, sorry for bothering you.

(20:12)
Being bothered is the best
thing that happened to me
all evening.
SH

(20:12)
My brother is insufferable.
SH

(20:13)
The James Bond guy?

(20:13)
He wishes.
SH

(20:15)
Is it normal sibling rivalry,
or did something happen
between you two?

(20:18)
So, this tourist bus.
SH

(20:18)
Haha, fine, I get the message.
What happened with the bus?

(20:19)
There was a thief on the bus,
and the driver wouldn’t do
anything about it. It was the
practical choice to kick him
out and take his place.
SH

(20:20)
You kicked him out?!

(20:24)
What else was I supposed to
do? The thief had stolen over
£100 000 worth of electronics.
SH

(20:25)
No. No. I can’t believe it. You
just…threw the driver out
just to catch a thief? What
did you do with the bus?

(20:28)
I drove it to Scotland Yard.
SH

(20:28)
Were there actual tourists on
the bus?

(20:29)
Yes.
SH

(20:30)
They must have been scared
out of their minds.

(20:32)
There was no reason to be.
SH

(20:35)
I drove by some very
touristic locations.
SH

(20:35)
You’re impossible.

(20:39)
It was the logical thing to do!
SH

(20:40)
I bet you did. Did they arrest
the thief?

(20:50)
Yes, they did. I wish you
could have seen her face
when we stopped in front of
Scotland Yard. It was quite
amusing.
SH

(20:51)
Although not as amusing as
my brother’s face when he
realised I was driving the bus.
SH

(20:52)
I wish I could have seen that.

(20:54)
Which one?
SH

(20:54)
Both.

(20:57)
It’s too late for the thief’s
face, but if my brother does
the face again, I’ll take a
photograph and send it to
you.
SH

(20:58)
Hahaha, ta! :)

(21:00)
So, what’s wrong with your
family that makes you want
to talk to me instead of
spending some quality time
with them?

(21:06)
The mere fact that I’m
attending their stupid dinner
is exceptional. They don’t
know me very well if they
expect me to engage in
pleasantries with relatives I
don’t care about.
SH

(21:07)
There.
Attachment: mycroft.jpg
SH

(21:08)
Wow, that’s one hell of a
disapproving sneer!

(21:08)
He has a lot of experience.
SH

(21:09)
That’s your brother?

(21:09)
Yes.
SH

(21:10)
Is his name really Mycroft?

(21:13)
Yes.
SH

(21:13)
Your parents had weird taste.

(21:15)
It’s a family thing.
SH

(21:17)
I can’t get over that sneer.

(21:20)
You’ve seen nothing, John.
That’s one picture. One! I
grew up with that sneer.
SH

(21:21)
I weep for your childhood.

(21:24)
If I decided to publish my
autobiography, that sneer
would be on the cover.
SH

(21:25)
Hahaha! Why was he
sneering?

(21:27)
I was texting during dinner.
SH

(21:27)
Now I feel like he’s sneering
at me! That’s it, I’m not
answering your texts
anymore.

(21:29)
That’s cruel.
SH

(21:32)
He just sneered at me for
sighing at the table. That’s
your fault.
SH

(21:33)
Stop texting me and eat your
dinner, or you won’t get any
pudding.

(21:34)

pudding?

SH

SH

SH

(23:42)
Ha ha. Funny.

(23:43)
I’m not one of your enemies,
I hope you know that.

(23:44)
Yes, of course I do.
SH

(23:45)
However, my enemies are not
above targeting the people
around me to get to me.
SH

(23:47)
Just so you know, what
you’re saying does nothing to
convince me you’re not living

I’m not kidding. My landlady
got kidnapped and strapped
to semtex.
SH

(23:48)
Poor woman, that’s horrible.

(23:49)
The person who did this is
very intelligent. As long as

SH

Yes.
SH

(20:50)
Sherlock, I was a soldier. I’m

I’m sure you can. But I can’t
risk it.
SH

(23:51)

No. Bit disappointed, that’s
all.

(23:56)
I wish I could be part of your
adventures.

(23:56)
I don’t have adventures,
John.
SH

(23:57)
Yeah, you do. I suppose I’ll
have to live vicariously
through your texts.

(23:58)
But if you ever need an
assistant, I think a doctor
who knows how to fight
would be a great candidate.

(23:58)
I’ll keep that in mind.
SH

(23:59)
I’m going to bed. Good night.

(23:59)
Good night.

Wrong Number - Author's Notes

(Anonymous) 2012-06-26 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Here’s the part where I hope anyone’s still reading this. I’m sorry it took a while to update, but I have another WIP somewhere on the meme and my plan is to alternate chapters.

There was quite a bit of music in this chapter, and here’s the one Sherlock played while John was at Speedy’s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7rxl5KsPjs

If some of you want to offer concrit, I would be delighted. I’m particularly interested in two things: the way Sherlock and John handled their conflict (by talking about it as little as possible), and Sherlock’s giddiness when John started texting him again (which I tried to show during his family dinner). But seriously, any input on the characterisation will make me very happy. In fact, your input on anything that will help me make this story better will make me happy :-)

Re: Wrong Number - Author's Notes

(Anonymous) 2012-06-27 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Still here, still reading and can't wait to see more! I think your characterisation is going well so far, so don't worry there. Sherlock was Sherlock, unthinking, brash and stubborn, and John was John. I have the horrid feeling you're going to have them meet outside Barts as Sherlock jumps off the roof... please don't do that. Happy ending?

This part was brilliant! I love that you've brought Mycroft into it. And the bit where they fell out and John heard the violin was lovely.

Hey you! I'm glad to know you're still reading! Thanks for your input on the characterization.

That would be an awful ending, don't you think? I don't think I could ever do that. I'm still not 100% sure where I'm going with this story, but I was thinking of stopping after The Empty House, because I would like to explore what the hiatus would be like in this universe.

I can almost guarantee a happy ending, though ;-)

I'm very happy you liked it!

I had to bring Mycroft into it somehow; I loved how he texted in the second series.

I'm glad you enjoyed the part with the violin. I had the idea. but I didn't know how to write it in texts only, so I had to use the unsent text technique, which I may use again in the future.

Thank you for your comment; it means a lot :-)

Just checked for an update totally randomly and was so happy to see one!

I liked the whole conflict bit a lot. I like that Sherlock is kind of a dick and that John didn't forgive him instantly. And I loooove that it was hearing the violin music that made John realize he misses Sherlock.

BUT OH MY GOD THE UNSENT MESSAGE I AM DEAD.

Yay for surprise update!

I'm very glad you enjoyed it, especially the unsent message! I was unsure of that, so it's good that you liked it!

John was dating again, so soon after his breakup, so of course Sherlock was going to be sulky and dickish. Apparently that's a good reason to be a dick ;-)

This is really fun! I love it. You do a great Sherlock and John voice. I am definitely looking forward to more :)

Lol, I realised too late that I posted this response in the wrong place. So I hope this reaches you Anonymous author.

I've been away from the meme -- but I'm still here! Still following. I wish I could get updates on individual threads on here, but don't have that type of account.

I laughed out loud at the pictures - adorable and delightful. Don't worry, author anon, I'll be around as long as you'll be around; I love this story.

(ps what other fill are you doing, if you don't mind me asking?)

YAY! Thrilled to see an update! This is probably my favorite story that I've ever read on the meme, even though there is no porn! <3

I've just stayed up until 4am reading the entirety of this fic and tried to fight my growing panic as the scrollbar slowly started reaching the bottom of the screen. But I'm done fighting it, I'm in full-on freak out mode, because this fic is absolutely excellent and I am completely in love with the way you capture their voices through just their texts. It's so brilliant and lovely and *them*, I almost can't stand it.

I hope you haven't given up on this piece because it's clearly one of the best ones out there, definitely one of the best Sherlock fics I've read. If you ever come back to it, you definitely have a willing and eager reader waiting here!

You are so kind! Thank you so much!

I'm happy you read it, even if you had to stay up late to do so. I'm also very, very happy you liked it. Don't worry, I haven't given up. I'm splitting my writing time between this fic and another one, so it could take a little while before the next update, but I still have a lot of ideas.

Wow, what an awesome fic! Put it in my favourites so I can check in here from time to time... I definitely hope you'll post more! <3

I'm totally sorry that I can't really give you concrit; I'm not a very good writer in general, and I only jumped into this fandom today. *lol* Yes, this is my very first Sherlock fanfic, and obviously I have a good instinct for finding the fics that'll make me giddy.

Anyways: This was exactly what I was looking for, what I imagined a Sherlock fic to be. The boys are so perfectly themselves! (<- sorry if this is wrong grammar, I'm not a native speaker ;) )
I love the dynamics you display (and am totally flabberghasted that one can make so much happen in only text messages!), and I can't wait for them to meet!
Awesome fanfic, thank you! <3
I'll be looking out for an update. Please keep writing on this! <3

Wait, what? No! You can't just leave it THERE!
Oh my godddd *this*
I fucking love this, it's amazing! The character (of both of them) and how Sherlock actually, already, cares so much about John he's actually putting his needs (which doesn't happen) before his own. My godddd I can't even start describing this, some parts got me cracking up, some sobbing 'nooo's into my screen.
I love it! Please keep it up!

At the risk of sounding like a whiny four-year-old...pleeeeeeeeeeeease tell me that you'll be continuing this sometime‽‽‽‽ It's so brilliant, you can't just leave it there *dramatic pout*

Or if you HAVE continued and/or posted it non-anon elsewhere, that would be both amazing and enormously helpful because I just KNOW that I'll never manage to remember to come back and check for updates here :)

Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed at least! You've got the characters down so well and it's just plain awesome :D
