No, I can't help it. When prude people complain to you about the naked dominatrix and your answer is that you did it to make the gay go away, that's fucking funny.

Personally, it makes me on the verge of tears.

If something the sun writes makes you tear up that's pretty much the definition for 'taking things too seriously'.

Not all of those articles were published after the moral panic, and it makes me sad to read Moffat's aversion to a queer reading of Sherlock.

Oh god yes, he's obviously working with Gatiss on this most heterosexual of shows because of his deep-seated homophobia. I'm convinced.

He probably won't even stay in the same room as Gatiss (especially alone) in case people think they have 'an interest' in each other.

He'll only be in a room with Gatiss if there's a naked gay dominatrix present.

There was no 'moral panic'. Unless you were a Mail reader then everything is a moral panic - unless it's you writing the tittilating story.

I'm guessing you're from the UK then. So, is that "good" news? Because as someone not from your country, I don't know what those papers typically write. That's coming off snarky, but I honestly mean it. Is the Sun one of those papers that you look at and roll your eyes?

You looks at ALL UK papers and roll your eyes. Some are a bit better than others but they are all full of lies, misrepresentation, information obtained by criminal acts and misunderstanding of basic politics, science and history.

RF isn't a fairy story about the press, it's how they behave in the UK - except the real press are far worse.

That. And the online-articles are usually even worse. You can't even be sure that Moffat said it, just because they write it. Hell, you can't be sure, someone actually complained, after all there was a picture of a naked woman in that story, they could have just made it up entirely.

This is the word of truth. Unless you've worked in the industry, you have NO IDEA how much you can get away with putting things out of context, and the extent to which you get away with it increases exponentially in relation to the lack of quality of your paper.

Seriously, you might think it's pretty bad? It is actually worse.

What you can be sure about is that the UK is heterosexist society, and that the tabloids offer those attitudes for sale.

Broadsheet newspapers, including but not limited to the Times, the Guardian, the FT, the Independent and arguably the Telegraph, are the ones you look at and roll your eyes.

Tabloid newspapers, including the Daily Mail, the Sun and the Star, you look at and SET ON FUCKING FIRE.

You really don't get it, do you? I guess it's just one of those things you have to live in the UK to understand. I don't think we're ever going to be able to explain to you how it's Mofatt trolling and just how funny it is that certain sections of fandom take anything he says as if it's serious.

The aim of a press release is to create interest and controversy to lift your programme out of the mass of others being shown that week. You have to make it sound as controversial as possible to get the papers to report it, then you have to go out and reinforce that. Mofatt has enough clout in the industry that what he says will be reported - he chooses to use that to keep people talking about his show (for good or bad - no publicity is bad publicity). He also chooses, for a number of reasons to troll over serious internet fans especially those who do things like give away spoilers. He's very much getting his own back and it's funny to watch.

He also needs to sustain the interest until Series 3. It's going to be hard with the Doctor Who anniversary, the Olympics, the complete Shakespeare season, reality shows, Downton....
