I'm guessing you're from the UK then. So, is that "good" news? Because as someone not from your country, I don't know what those papers typically write. That's coming off snarky, but I honestly mean it. Is the Sun one of those papers that you look at and roll your eyes?

***area. I meant. Country isn't right. I know the UK is several countries. *facepalm*

You looks at ALL UK papers and roll your eyes. Some are a bit better than others but they are all full of lies, misrepresentation, information obtained by criminal acts and misunderstanding of basic politics, science and history.

RF isn't a fairy story about the press, it's how they behave in the UK - except the real press are far worse.

That. And the online-articles are usually even worse. You can't even be sure that Moffat said it, just because they write it. Hell, you can't be sure, someone actually complained, after all there was a picture of a naked woman in that story, they could have just made it up entirely.

This is the word of truth. Unless you've worked in the industry, you have NO IDEA how much you can get away with putting things out of context, and the extent to which you get away with it increases exponentially in relation to the lack of quality of your paper.

Seriously, you might think it's pretty bad? It is actually worse.

No shit, a friend of mine did an internship for a relatively respectable magazine and while she was there a reporter got fired, because he had made up interviews with stars for YEARS. For years he had always travelled to the cities where the stars were had slept in a nice hotel for a night or two, did some sightseeing, then he pulled that interview out of his arse (okay, he probably copy/pasted a bunch of earlier interviews) and sold that to the readership.

What you can be sure about is that the UK is heterosexist society, and that the tabloids offer those attitudes for sale.

Absolutely. Here's a Daily Mail headline generator:

The most terrifying thing about it is how accurate it is. This is all of their headlines.

The first one it gave me was this gem:

HAVE THE FRENCH TURNED YOUR PETS GAY?

I'm pretty sure that's an actual Mail headline :-)

ARE CHAVS TURNING THE ROYAL FAMILY GAY?
HAVE PAEDOPHILES GIVEN CLIFF RICHARD SWINE FLU?

Oh my God.

My god, this is a thing of beautiful fuckery.

WILL LESBIANS STEAL FROM YOUR CHILDREN?

ARE CHAVS MOLESTING TAXPAYERS?

COULD PAEDOPHILES RIP OFF BRITAIN'S SWANS?

COULD SINGLE MOTHERS DESTROY BRITISH JUSTICE?

COULD THE METRIC SYSTEM GIVE YOUR HOUSE SWINE FLU?

All societies are. The UK is doing comparatively well.

Broadsheet newspapers, including but not limited to the Times, the Guardian, the FT, the Independent and arguably the Telegraph, are the ones you look at and roll your eyes.

Tabloid newspapers, including the Daily Mail, the Sun and the Star, you look at and SET ON FUCKING FIRE.

Seriously. I'm not even from the UK and I know this.

(And you can sort of tell by the mock-up in Reichenbach even if you're not sure. It just screams harmful tabloid.)
