+re: hijacking.
Please refrain from hijacking a prompt. Hijacking may be defined as responding to a prompt by taking a portion of it and adding your own ideas about what should be added, changed or eliminated. In addition, commenting with off topic jokes or chatter.
By hijacking, the focus of the prompt can be lost, and inappropriate threads created. By doing this fillers may be discouraged which is something no one wants to experience.
If a prompt leads you to an original idea, please create your own prompt. The chatter or love posts are the proper places to share jokes or talk about prompts that have inspired you.

Mycroft felt his face heat for a second at the implications those words made him think about. “I was hoping now would be an acceptable time to have our quick meeting.”
“In my office?” Greg leaned back in his chair, stretching his legs out and crossing them at the ankles.
“Yes,” Mycroft adjusted his tie. “I did not want you to feel like a prisoner, so I presumed it would be more comfortable for you here, in your office.”
Greg smiled. “How thoughtful. Now, I assume you want to know about Sherlock.”
Mycroft tried to keep the displeasure at Greg’s bluntness. He had hoped they would have made idle chat for a little while before delving into the real reason of his visit. He’s married. What are you expecting? Mycroft nodded once.
“Well, nothing really seems to have changed from before. He is getting better at hiding the symptoms. I wouldn’t even notice the trembling if I wasn’t looking for it.” Greg folded his hands and rested them on his stomach.
Mycroft nodded. “That is good to hear. I take it this…arrangement is something you can live with?”
“For the moment, yeah. Someone needs to look out for the man since he clearly isn’t doing it for himself.” Greg chuckled. “It’s astounding that you two are brothers for how different you are. At least how it appears.”
“How do you mean?” Mycroft raised his brow. Everyone always commented on how the brilliant Holmes boys were like two peas in a pod. They were awfully similar. It was strange to hear someone say they were different.
“Well, you have Sherlock who cares a lot about himself while seeming to not care at all about anyone else.” Greg looked at him, his brown eyes searching Mycroft’s own. “Then there’s you…who cares about so many. At least that’s what I understand.”
Mycroft tilted his head. How so?
“You have this weight that seems to have settled itself on your shoulders, most likely from caring too much or having a lot of responsibly. I’m assuming that you do care a lot about many things and people, while not putting yourself first once in a while.”
“I beg your pardon?” Mycroft said, a little fire behind his voice. “You do not have the authority to make a claim like that.”
Greg held up his hands. “I’m sorry. I wasn’t saying anything negative by it. I was just pointing out an observation.”
The room filled with a tense silence.
“I apologise,” Mycroft said softly. “I know you were simply making an observation.” Albeit a correct one. How could he know so much without spending much time with me?
Greg nodded. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”
Mycroft stared at him. He wasn’t used to that level of sincerity when it came to anything to do with himself. Whenever someone had to apologise to Mycroft, it always had the underlying feeling of fear or obligation. No one, at least no one in a very long time, ever seemed to apologise because they upset him. Not only apologise, but mean it.
However, the fact that Gregory knew something had bothered him meant that he was showing too much. He had to get himself back under control. “It’s quite alright.” He fidgeted with his umbrella again.
Greg sighed. “How frequent do you expect these meetings to be?”
“We could just converse through e-mail, if you would prefer that,” Mycroft said quickly.
“No. I mean, if something comes up, then of course I’ll contact you. But…I think these meetings are important,” Greg said. “It would give us a chance to…form a partnership of sorts,” he finished quietly. He had wanted to say friendship but knew Mycroft would not be open to that.
Mycroft nodded. “If you wish. How frequent would you prefer?”

“That could easily be arranged,” Mycroft said, hoping he wasn’t smiling. That would mean Greg was winning at trying to get more out of Mycroft than he wanted to give.
Greg smiled, excited. He couldn’t explain what it was about the stone, stoic man that caused this obsession, but Greg wanted to uncover him, figure him out. He wanted to know all there was to know about him. He sounded pathetic, even in his own head.
“I regret to say that I will be out of town for the next two weeks, so I will not be able to meet. However, I can give you my mobile number which you may use to contact me if something should come up,” Mycroft said as he reached into his pocket to grab a pen. “Paper?”
Greg handed him a piece of scratch paper to write his number down on. “Do you prefer calls or texts?”
“It doesn’t matter. Whichever you prefer,” Mycroft said with an easy smile. He was surprised that someone thought to ask that. Most people just assumed that texting as it was used most frequently.
Greg smiled. “I’ll be in touch, then.”
Mycroft nodded. “I appreciate that, Detective Inspector.”
Greg rolled his eyes. “It’s Greg. Or Gregory if you prefer.” He tilted his head. “I think we’ve moved past the formalities, yes?”
Mycroft smiled hesitantly. “Apologies…Gregory.”
Greg smiled. “See, it’s not too bad, calling someone by their first name, is it?” he teased. He was stalling and he knew it, but he didn’t know why he was so hesitant to say goodbye to Mycroft. They had really only met twice and discussed Sherlock.
“I suppose not.” Mycroft stood. “Goodbye, Gregory. I will be in contact with you when I return.”
Greg turned his attention back to the papers on his desk. “If you need someone to talk to while you’re away, you can always contact me. To, you know, have someone who’s expecting you to return.” He winced.
Mycroft cleared his throat. “Are you requesting that I inform you of when I return?”
“Yeah. And when you get wherever it is you’re going safely,” Greg said. “Someone has to look out for you.”
Mycroft felt a pleasing feeling wash over him at the thought that Gregory wanted to make sure he came back. It was, of course, mostly for Sherlock’s benefit, but Mycroft could fool himself for a few moments. “You would like to be that person?”
“I’m volunteering,” Greg said quietly, looking up at Mycroft. “I’m sure that you have a million people who are required to keep tabs on you, but I would like to be included, just to make sure you actually do come back.”
Mycroft tapped his umbrella on the ground. “Very well. I will inform you of when I arrive at my destination as well as when I return. Does that suit you?”
Greg laughed. “I’m not going to force you to do anything you don’t want, Mycroft.” He rubbed his neck. “I know it’s a ridiculous request, but I don’t want you to feel like I am only looking out for Sherlock. As far as I’m concerned, I took on both the Holmes brothers that day.”
Mycroft didn’t know what to say, so he nodded. Gregory wanted to check in with him and not just about Sherlock. Surely that meant he wanted to see more of Mycroft, right? Unless it was simply to make sure his new employer didn’t die and leave him empty-handed. “Goodbye, Gregory.”

Greg arrived back at his flat over an hour after he said he was going to be home. He felt incredibly guilty, but it wasn’t as though he planned to be forced into a meeting regarding his latest case. He had truly tried to get home.
He walked into the kitchen and spotted the note. He picked it up and read:
Went out with the girls. Plate for you in the fridge. It would have been nice to enjoy it together.
He groaned and reached for his phone to call her. He wasn’t surprised when it went to voicemail. He left a message apologizing and saying that he had been taken into a last minute meeting that he couldn’t have gotten out of. He hung up feeling dejected.
He crumpled the note and threw it away. He should have called her, he knew that now, but at the time he was too focused on memorizing his surroundings in case they tried to kidnap him for real.
Greg couldn’t tell if it was out of courtesy for Mycroft or out of selfishness on his part to want to keep Mycroft to himself. Mycroft was so different from everyone else and that was attractive. It wasn’t as though Greg was going to shag him blind the next time he saw him, but he did want to get to know him better.
He wanted to learn why he held himself as though always under scrutiny. He wanted to actually talk to this strange, eccentric man, have a real conversation that didn’t involve a case or some sort of office politics. Or one that didn’t involve discussing all his failings and faults.
For once, he just wanted someone to want to talk to him as a person, not as a DI for the Yard or a horrible husband. Him, as Greg Lestrade. He wasn’t sure if Mycroft Holmes was the person for that, but he finally met someone new. Perhaps this was just what he had been waiting for.
AN-That turned out longer than I anticipated. Bear with the length. It may take awhile for them to really get together because, you know how Mycroft is. I hope the first chapter of laying the groundwork was alright. Also, as a side note, I'm going to London for the next few months so I'm not sure how frequent updates will be. Bear with me! :)

I am travelling for the next few weeks, so I probably won't have a chance to update, but I'm going to try and continue writing if/when I can!
