Prompting Part XXXV

GUIDELINES

  • Anon posting is not required, but most definitely allowed. If you think you recognise an anon, keep it to yourself and don’t out them. IP tracking is off, and will remain that way.

  • Multiple fills are encouraged, and all kinds of fills are accepted! Fic, art, vids, cosplay, interpretive dance — whatever. Go wild! :D

  • Don’t reprompt until TWO parts after the last posting of the prompt.

  • RPF (real person fic, i.e. fic involving the actors themselves) is not supported at this meme.

  • Concrit is welcome, but kinkshaming, hijacking, and flaming are not tolerated.

THE FILLED PROMPTS POST
When you fill a prompt, please use the appropriate Filled Prompts Post to archive your fill (there are instructions on the actual post).

If the part you wanted isn't up yet, just wait and one of the archivists will get to it, but please, once it is up, make sure you post your fills there according to the guidelines. DO NOT skip out on doing this because it seems like too much effort. If you want your fill to make it to the Delicious archive, that’s the way to do it.

Do not be afraid to ask questions about how it works if you are confused! The mods will be happy to explain.

WARNINGS/OFFENSIVE WORDING IN PROMPTS
Please consider warning for prompts that may trigger people (and also for fills, because some people read in flat view) and phrasing prompts in a manner that strives to be respectful.

Things which you might want to consider warning for include: Rape/Non-Con, Death, Suicidal Thoughts, Self-Harm, Underage Relationships, among others.

That being said, this is a kink meme. As such, there will be prompts that could offend you in a number of different ways. Not every prompt will have a trigger warning, and not every prompt will rub you the right way. If you have an issue with a specific prompt, feel free to bring it up in a discussion that takes place off the meme. However, flaming will not be tolerated regardless of origin.

You are highly encouraged to scroll past any prompt that you dislike.

Remember: be civil, be friendly, but don’t be shy!

THINGS THAT MAKE BROWSING THE MEME EASIER FOR EVERYONE
Please nest your fills. Doing so will make it easier for archivists to save your fills to the Delicious archive. Using subject lines will also help people reading the meme in flatview keep track of what’s happening. Finally, titling your fills (even if it’s something silly) will be helpful to those tracking a lot of prompts or scrolling through the meme.

PROMPT FREEZES
Depending on the rate of activity, there may or may not be a prompt freeze when a part reaches 2000 and 4500 comments. However, there will be one when it reaches 7000. After the 7000 comments freeze, a new part will be posted, and all prompting should happen on the new part.

OP

Wow. Events escalated quickly and perfectly, from the drunken banter, to the game of truth or dare, to them getting sexual, and of course, to the rape. This is incredibly well-written, and heartbreaking. Not only for Sherlock, but for John, as well. It was difficult to keep reading knowing what was going to happen. Their characterizations and the way they played off of each other was spot-on.

Also, the things John was saying to Sherlock while he raped him were literally chilling to me. About always wanting Sherlock and not telling Mary. At the same time, I found the rape itself to be rather erotic, which only increased the creepy-crawlies I felt when he began saying those things. S: Well done.

I'm eagerly awaiting the rest.

BTW, I'm glad you stuck with the Non-Con as writing it as consensual would have been contrary to my prompt. Though, I'm sure it would have been amazing either way. :)

Thanks so much. I'm glad this fill has met your expectations so far. There's always a measure of uncertainty involved in filling prompts, but with non-con it can be even more of a shot in the dark, since it's sometimes unclear what tone or level of graphicness the prompter would prefer.

I don't think I could've written this without the lead-up. I figured that I had to keep them in character to keep the rape from seeming random and cheap. And I kind of think it makes John's betrayal all the more deep to have him in character.

There's a dark side to John in canon: he's jealous, he bottles up his emotions, and he suppresses parts of himself that he's not comfortable acknowledging (namely his sexuality). He's also got a bit of a drinking problem and alcohol tends to bring out his nasty side. My goal was to build off of those traits — to push them to their limit.

John hasn't yet realized the full gravity of what he's done. John had himself convinced, in the heat of the moment, that Sherlock's objections were based on a fear of wrecking his impending marriage. That if John penetrated him fully, they'd be having "proper" sex, and that would count as cheating. And so all the creepy stuff John says is him rationalizing what he's doing by trying to alleviate that imagined fear.

I do worry that I overeroticized the rape scene. But it's written from John's perspective, and all the sexual activity up until John crossing that moral event horizon is shamelessly smutty, so I figured it would've been jarring to suddenly switch to Ikea porn.

Also, when I say I considered "re-purposing" this fill, I don't mean that I would've posted it here and hoped you would still enjoy it despite the non-adherance to your prompt. I mean I would've posted it elsewhere and left you a note saying I'd decided not to take on this prompt after all.

Anyway, I'll try to have the next part up soon, but I'm going through some hectic stuff IRL, so it might take a bit longer.

(Different anon)

I recently wrote a non-con fill here,( from John's POV too) so I understand exactly what you mean about not wanting to support rape culture or over-eroticism of rape. I just wanted to confirm that I think you handled it all very well. Keeping them both so well in character throughout really makes it work. As much as we are hesitant to assign these dark motives to characters we love, I think this gets to the heart of what rape is... how it usually isn't a maniac jumping out of the bushes, but someone you know, and maybe love, usually trust. John is very emotionally compromised, and I think you did a great job at extending his existing character flaws.

Thanks for the kind words. :) It's reassuring to know I've achieved what I set out to with this fic.

OP again.

Well, I'm very glad you didn't repurpose it, and decided to keep it in-character as much as possible. This is exactly what I was hoping for when I made the prompt.

Haha! I understood why John was saying those things, it was just very unsettling and actually made the rape feel a lot less... well, hot, for want of a better word. Even though it was written from John's perspective.

I'm especially eager for the next parts, as the aftermath of such a colossal violation and betrayal is what I was really looking forward to reading. I hope that doesn't sound awful. :/

I don't really care if it takes you a while to get more parts up. I can wait. :p

I think rape is ultimately more an act of power and humiliation than of sexual gratification. That's why it usually rubs me the wrong way when fic authors have rapists utter run-of-the-mill dirty talk. I mean, played right, having a rapist say "normal" things during sex can be extremely creepy and unsettling. The "normal" dirty talk can be mocking, and thus serve to underscore the rapist's cruelty, or it can be sincere, and thus serve to underscore that the rapist is batshit enough to believe they're not committing rape. But I think that a lot of the time it bespeaks a lack of creativity on the author's part and indicates that they're treating rape like "normal" sex minus consent rather than something in its own category.

And so the things John says during the rape are supposed to be creepy. But it isn't a power trip for him in the sense that he's trying to terrorize or humiliate Sherlock. It's more that he feels trapped in a life that isn't his (Mary, stable job, house in the 'burbs), and taking what he's always secretly wanted (Sherlock), but been denied at every turn, gives him a sense of reclaiming the power he's lost.

There's a new part up. Hope it's to your liking. And, no, it's not a bad thing to like some good old-fashioned angst. ;)

I hope this post makes sense. I'm dead tired at the moment.
