Prompting Part XXXIV
GUIDELINES
- Anon posting is not required, but most definitely allowed. If you think you recognise an anon, keep it to yourself and don’t out them. IP tracking is off, and will remain that way.
- Multiple fills are encouraged, and all kinds of fills are accepted! Fic, art, vids, cosplay, interpretive dance — whatever. Go wild! :D
- Don’t reprompt until TWO parts after the last posting of the prompt.
- RPF (real person fic, i.e. fic involving the actors themselves) is not supported at this meme.
- Concrit is welcome, but kinkshaming, hijacking, and flaming are not tolerated.
THE FILLED PROMPTS POST
When you fill a prompt, please use the appropriate Filled Prompts Post to archive your fill (there are instructions on the actual post).
If the part you wanted isn't up yet, just wait and one of the archivists will get to it, but please, once it is up, make sure you post your fills there according to the guidelines. DO NOT skip out on doing this because it seems like too much effort. If you want your fill to make it to the Delicious archive, that’s the way to do it.
Do not be afraid to ask questions about how it works if you are confused! The mods will be happy to explain.
WARNINGS/OFFENSIVE WORDING IN PROMPTS
Please consider warning for prompts that may trigger people (and also for fills, because some people read in flat view) and phrasing prompts in a manner that strives to be respectful.
Things which you might want to consider warning for include: Rape/Non-Con, Death, Suicidal Thoughts, Self-Harm, Underage Relationships, among others.
That being said, this is a kink meme. As such, there will be prompts that could offend you in a number of different ways. Not every prompt will have a trigger warning, and not every prompt will rub you the right way. If you have an issue with a specific prompt, feel free to bring it up in a discussion that takes place off the meme. However, flaming will not be tolerated regardless of origin.
You are highly encouraged to scroll past any prompt that you dislike.
Remember: be civil, be friendly, but don’t be shy!
THINGS THAT MAKE BROWSING THE MEME EASIER FOR EVERYONE
Please nest your fills. Doing so will make it easier for archivists to save your fills to the Delicious archive. Using subject lines will also help people reading the meme in flatview keep track of what’s happening. Finally, titling your fills (even if it’s something silly) will be helpful to those tracking a lot of prompts or scrolling through the meme.
PROMPT FREEZES
Depending on the rate of activity, there may or may not be a prompt freeze when a part reaches 2000 and 4500 comments. However, there will be one when it reaches 7000. After the 7000 comments freeze, a new part will be posted, and all prompting should happen on the new part.

FILL: Part 11A - All Life is an Experiment (Mycroft/Sherlock)
(Anonymous) 2014-10-04 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)Chapter 11
Day 21
John flinches when he climbs the final few steps out from the tube station and is immediately assaulted by the rain, falling heavily all around him. He tightens the collar of his coat as he throws a baleful look at the sky. The glorious summer weather they had all enjoyed had left, turning London into a sodden, grey city full of disgruntled inhabitants around a week ago. The weather forecasters, John reminds himself, could make no guarantee for the return of the sun, citing the overhead presence of a jet stream for their uncertainty.
In the minute it takes him to walk up the short stretch of pavement to 221B, his coat is thoroughly soaked. Part of John much rather prefers to be at home, his baby daughter in his arms as he watches the rain fall while warm and dry. However the nagging worry in the back of his mind, growing as the days with no contact becomes a week and then more, drove him here to Baker Street to check on his friend.
Perhaps it’s the weather, John muses on the doorstep as he fumbles in his pocket for the front door key. I’m sure he’s perfectly fine. But then it is Sherlock Holmes I’m talking about.
There are no current cases, that John’s aware of, to explain Sherlock’s nine day silence. Certainly not once he’d finished leaving a message on Greg’s phone telling him the extent of Sherlock’s injuries on their last case and a clear command to leave his friend alone. Not that Sherlock was actively looking for a case, another strange anomaly. Although, from what John could gather, not that he’s paying any particular attention, Sherlock is still rather distracted by his experiment and in playing a prank on his brother.
His key slides into the lock and seconds later, John gladly closes the door – and the rain – behind him. As he shucks off his coat, leaving it to drip dry on the coat hook in the hallway, John spots Mrs Hudson.
“Oh, John dear,” she greets him warmly. “I’m so glad you’re here.”
John throws her a quick smile as he checks the rest of his clothes. Not too damp, he decides, if you ignore the last few inches of his jeans. “Terrible weather, isn’t it Mrs Hudson?”
“What? Oh yes, it is,” Mrs Hudson replies. “Are you here for Sherlock?”
His eyes automatically rise to the ceiling. “Well, yes, actually. He’s not been answering my calls. Thought I’d be the responsible one for once and check in on him.”
“Thank goodness!”
“Mrs Hudson?”
“It’s nothing really,” she says, far too quickly in a low tone. “Well. He’s been in an awful mood. Not angry … like you know he can be. It’s not quite like he’s sulking either, although I expect that’s the best word for it. I really don’t know what to do with the poor boy-“
John frowns as he listens to his ex-landlady witter on.
“And it’s almost like he’s moping. But he’s confused too. It’s ever so unusual for Sherlock. You know what he’s like. And he’s had no visitors. Not even Lestrade or his brother. The only positive thing is the tea tray. I leave it there before he wakes up and it’s usually empty when I collect it but there’s no hide nor hair of him-“
“Mrs Hudson,” John interrupts the older woman’s ongoing train of thoughts.
She wrings her hands together. “I’m a little worried, John. Do something will you to get him out of this mood, will you?”
John’s smile isn’t as confident as he’d like but he’s relieved when Mrs Hudson throws him a watery smile and returns to her own flat. With a deep breath, John walks up the stairs, quickly bringing up and dismissing an image of Sherlock’s situation with each step. When he finally enters the flat, he’s immediately confused by the lack of … something. A brief look confirms Sherlock’s presence with half-empty mugs of tea scattered around the kitchen and discarded clothing in the living room. Sherlock’s bedroom, as always, is the complete antithesis of the rest of the flat – clean, organised. Pristine.
Though John, upon reflection, thinks that might be because Sherlock hasn’t slept in his bed for days. He may not match up to his friend when it comes to deductions but in this one he is fairly confident.
