Prompting Part XXXIV

GUIDELINES

  • Anon posting is not required, but most definitely allowed. If you think you recognise an anon, keep it to yourself and don’t out them. IP tracking is off, and will remain that way.

  • Multiple fills are encouraged, and all kinds of fills are accepted! Fic, art, vids, cosplay, interpretive dance — whatever. Go wild! :D

  • Don’t reprompt until TWO parts after the last posting of the prompt.

  • RPF (real person fic, i.e. fic involving the actors themselves) is not supported at this meme.

  • Concrit is welcome, but kinkshaming, hijacking, and flaming are not tolerated.

THE FILLED PROMPTS POST
When you fill a prompt, please use the appropriate Filled Prompts Post to archive your fill (there are instructions on the actual post).

If the part you wanted isn't up yet, just wait and one of the archivists will get to it, but please, once it is up, make sure you post your fills there according to the guidelines. DO NOT skip out on doing this because it seems like too much effort. If you want your fill to make it to the Delicious archive, that’s the way to do it.

Do not be afraid to ask questions about how it works if you are confused! The mods will be happy to explain.

WARNINGS/OFFENSIVE WORDING IN PROMPTS
Please consider warning for prompts that may trigger people (and also for fills, because some people read in flat view) and phrasing prompts in a manner that strives to be respectful.

Things which you might want to consider warning for include: Rape/Non-Con, Death, Suicidal Thoughts, Self-Harm, Underage Relationships, among others.

That being said, this is a kink meme. As such, there will be prompts that could offend you in a number of different ways. Not every prompt will have a trigger warning, and not every prompt will rub you the right way. If you have an issue with a specific prompt, feel free to bring it up in a discussion that takes place off the meme. However, flaming will not be tolerated regardless of origin.

You are highly encouraged to scroll past any prompt that you dislike.

Remember: be civil, be friendly, but don’t be shy!

THINGS THAT MAKE BROWSING THE MEME EASIER FOR EVERYONE
Please nest your fills. Doing so will make it easier for archivists to save your fills to the Delicious archive. Using subject lines will also help people reading the meme in flatview keep track of what’s happening. Finally, titling your fills (even if it’s something silly) will be helpful to those tracking a lot of prompts or scrolling through the meme.

PROMPT FREEZES
Depending on the rate of activity, there may or may not be a prompt freeze when a part reaches 2000 and 4500 comments. However, there will be one when it reaches 7000. After the 7000 comments freeze, a new part will be posted, and all prompting should happen on the new part.

Fill: No Refuge from Memory: 14b/?

“What should I do?”

“First, you should talk to him. Find out if he wants to remember. Then, if he does, you should find a way to trigger the memories in a safe, controlled setting. For example, you could show him an object from his past that is linked to some of his traumatic experiences. That way the object is the enemy, rather than you. It will help prevent him from reacting violently to the flashbacks. The important thing is that you don’t try to suggest what his memories should be. The human mind is very flexible. If you tell him that he was abused or tortured or whatever, his mind will begin to construct a story around it to fill in the holes. He needs to remember the facts independently of any influence.”

“I already told him that I suspected he was tortured.”

“That was probably fine. You only mentioned it once, so I doubt you did any damage.” She gave him a serious look, “He needs to see someone, the sooner the better.”

Sherlock opened his mouth.

She cut him off, “No, it shouldn’t be me. This is not my area of expertise, but I will give you the number of the very best person I know.”

As he was leaving, Sherlock put the piece of paper in his pocket. He wasn’t sure whether therapy was the answer. It certainly hadn’t helped his flatmate in the past.

*

When he arrived at the flat, his eyes immediately strayed to John’s chair. He missed the sound of his long-suffering sigh for, once again, forgetting to buy eggs, or tea, or bin liners, or whatever piece of domestic trivia he was always on about.

Sherlock would launch into a chaotic ramble about his day and John would feign exasperation, but he knew that deep down, he loved his meandering observations.

He thought back through the previous week. It had been the most bizarre period in his life. First, the worry that John would find out he loved him, then the incandescent joy that at least some of his feelings were returned, then the growing disquiet as Sherlock slowly realized that something was going very wrong, and finally the adrenaline as he stared down the barrel of John’s gun.

He mused about John’s odd determination to have sex, and the acute disappointment on his face when Sherlock turned him down. The thought kept niggling at the back of Sherlock’s mind. John was uncomfortable with intimacy, so why was he so determined to have sex? This merited additional investigation.

He mounted the steps to John’s room and was surprised to find the door unlocked. He entered. He’d only been inside John’s room on a handful of occasions, more times this week than in their entire previous acquaintance. He was always struck by the blankness of it. There were no pictures on the walls, no knickknacks, not even curtains to cover the tiny window. John’s possessions were always tucked away into drawers and shelves. His bed, with its white sheets and beige blanket did not sport so much as wrinkle.
