Prompting Part XXXIV
GUIDELINES
- Anon posting is not required, but most definitely allowed. If you think you recognise an anon, keep it to yourself and don’t out them. IP tracking is off, and will remain that way.
- Multiple fills are encouraged, and all kinds of fills are accepted! Fic, art, vids, cosplay, interpretive dance — whatever. Go wild! :D
- Don’t reprompt until TWO parts after the last posting of the prompt.
- RPF (real person fic, i.e. fic involving the actors themselves) is not supported at this meme.
- Concrit is welcome, but kinkshaming, hijacking, and flaming are not tolerated.
THE FILLED PROMPTS POST
When you fill a prompt, please use the appropriate Filled Prompts Post to archive your fill (there are instructions on the actual post).
If the part you wanted isn't up yet, just wait and one of the archivists will get to it, but please, once it is up, make sure you post your fills there according to the guidelines. DO NOT skip out on doing this because it seems like too much effort. If you want your fill to make it to the Delicious archive, that’s the way to do it.
Do not be afraid to ask questions about how it works if you are confused! The mods will be happy to explain.
WARNINGS/OFFENSIVE WORDING IN PROMPTS
Please consider warning for prompts that may trigger people (and also for fills, because some people read in flat view) and phrasing prompts in a manner that strives to be respectful.
Things which you might want to consider warning for include: Rape/Non-Con, Death, Suicidal Thoughts, Self-Harm, Underage Relationships, among others.
That being said, this is a kink meme. As such, there will be prompts that could offend you in a number of different ways. Not every prompt will have a trigger warning, and not every prompt will rub you the right way. If you have an issue with a specific prompt, feel free to bring it up in a discussion that takes place off the meme. However, flaming will not be tolerated regardless of origin.
You are highly encouraged to scroll past any prompt that you dislike.
Remember: be civil, be friendly, but don’t be shy!
THINGS THAT MAKE BROWSING THE MEME EASIER FOR EVERYONE
Please nest your fills. Doing so will make it easier for archivists to save your fills to the Delicious archive. Using subject lines will also help people reading the meme in flatview keep track of what’s happening. Finally, titling your fills (even if it’s something silly) will be helpful to those tracking a lot of prompts or scrolling through the meme.
PROMPT FREEZES
Depending on the rate of activity, there may or may not be a prompt freeze when a part reaches 2000 and 4500 comments. However, there will be one when it reaches 7000. After the 7000 comments freeze, a new part will be posted, and all prompting should happen on the new part.

FILL: Part 7B - All Life is an Experiment (Mycroft/Sherlock)
(Anonymous) 2014-08-05 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)Outside Mycroft’s bedroom door, he waits a moment and listens. Not that his brother would be so vulgar as to snore. There’s no signs of movement so Mycroft must still be in bed.
Perfect.
Not that Sherlock is planning anything indecent today. He’s quite aware that his brother standing on the precipice – not quite sure whether to jump or to fall. And Sherlock is still playing his game and for that, he needs Mycroft to continue standing on that edge.
Cautious and gentle. Like handling a feral cat.
He knocks on the door. Doesn’t wait for an invite to enter – his excuse is the breakfast tray is too heavy to give way for courtesy. As Sherlock eases the door open, he spots that Mycroft is still in bed – although the tightness in his eyes indicates his sleep wasn’t as restful as it could have been – but he’s clad in a gorgeous blue cashmere dressing gown. Derek Rose, Sherlock notes. In this they are of similar minds.
“Morning,” he says in greeting. “I thought I’d organise breakfast.”
“It’s Sunday.”
“Yes.”
“You can’t cook.”
“I can. The evidence disproves you.”
“Toast and tea are the extent of your skills I recall, Sherlock.”
“You’re grumpy this morning,” Sherlock grouses as he sets the tray on the large bed. Pushes is across the sheets before he clambers onto the bed himself, ignoring the raised eyebrow his brother offers him. “A cup of tea should sort that out.”
He quickly prepares two cups of tea just how he and Mycroft prefers it, handing off one of the cups, seated in a saucer, to his bemused brother.
“Breakfast in bed?” Mycroft asks.
“And you didn’t even have to put out,” Sherlock ripostes. “I believe that’s the appropriate phrase.”
“Sherlock.”
“Drink your tea. Toast?”
“Fine.”
Sherlock grabs a plate, adding the toast, butter, the small pot of marmalade, a small spoon and knife, passing it to his side. He drops a napkin in his own lap and lifts a domed cover and grabs a sausage from the plate. The smell of a hot, cooked breakfast fills the bedroom.
“You cooked?” Mycroft looks bemused as he butters his toast. “And didn’t burn anything?”
“Yes,” Sherlock replies as he takes a bite of the sausage.
Mycroft suddenly sighs as a thought strikes him. “Does my kitchen look like a war zone?”
Sherlock hums. “I gave it a quick wipe-down,” he assures. “I’m sure it’ll meet your immense standards after your maid gets her hands on it tomorrow.”
Mycroft takes a moment to finish chewing before speaking. “When did you learn to cook?”
“Oh, I don’t cook. Just breakfast,” Sherlock corrects. “I asked Mrs Hudson to teach me.”
His brother snorts and Sherlock’s pleased to see he’s smiling. “I don’t think I need to know anything else.”
Sherlock takes the final bite of his sausage, licks his fingers. When he looks over to ask if Mycroft wanted any hot food, he realises Mycroft is staring at him and Sherlock hesitates. Then he notices his brother is dropping crumbs all over his sheets.
He grabs the napkin and starts brushing at the sheets, ignoring Mycroft’s noises of protest and waving hands. He tries to collect as much of the crumbs as he can but only succeeds in scattering them across the bed. It’s only when he gives up and looks up at his brother, whose face is flushed that he realises what he’s doing.
“Oh.” Sherlock feels his own face grow warmer in response.
Mycroft pulls his knees up, the sheet tenting around his legs. He looks to the side for a long moment and when he looks back at him, Sherlock thinks his brother looks rather becoming when all of his shields are gone. When he’s Mycroft the man rather than Mycroft the Brother, the British Government or even when he’s being Mycroft Holmes.
“Perhaps a refill,” Mycroft asks holding his empty teacup, resting it upon newly raised knees, distracting Sherlock.
“Yes, tea. Right, I can do that.”
Sherlock’s not quite sure but he thinks he might be losing control of his own experiment.
Re: FILL: Part 7B - All Life is an Experiment (Mycroft/Sherlock)
(Anonymous) 2014-08-05 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)Yay! Delighted to see more of this. And no worries about however long it takes - I was very impressed by how ridiculously fast you were posting new chapters before! Good to see Sherlock finding himself a bit off-balance in this installment. :)
Re: FILL: Part 7B - All Life is an Experiment (Mycroft/Sherlock)
(Anonymous) 2014-08-05 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)From my outline, there are only 5 more chapters to go and I am still mulling on the actual ending with the brothers so definitely enough to keep me occupied! Then I need to find a beta to help me and give it a good edit as it feels like a rather rough stone right now.
Oh, more Sherlock feels coming up :-) but its the Mycroft feels I'm looking forward to *evil grin*
