Previous (Full) Rant Post

No real directions, but this isn't a place for debate. It's a place for RANTIN' AND RAVIN'.

There is a rule: There is to be no calling out anyone by name in Rants, Chatter, or on the Meme itself. This only produces an atmosphere of animosity and it is no longer tolerated. If you see any names being ranted about, please link us at Page-A-Mod. Thanks! :)

Please do not use this post or any other posts in the meme for sharing of download or streaming of links that aren't the official source of the content.

I HATE catching mistakes in my work after I post, but I usually find them immediately after posting. (This is why I never post fic anon--I need to have the option to delete it, lol.) *Deep breath* Thanks. I don't know why I have such a hard time leaving concrit online.

If you are commenting on an anon posting with concrit, you might want to add the softener of "If you are planning to repost this" (or "In future parts" if it's a WIP) to acknowledge that of course you realize the anon can't go back and fix the mistake where it is. It seems like an obvious and understood thing, but I find it helps to mention that, and for me it lessens the frustration of not being able to fix it, having that acknowledged.

oh, was that you? lol! i really really like the fic, which is why i was so conflicted about pointing it out, haha. hopefully i put it nicely enough, and at least you know that i meant well :]

It made my day, actually. Combining freaky coincidence and nice concrit :) I haven't done much but honestly, literally the best thing to happen to me today.

Don't worry about pointing out genuine mistake like that. You said it really politely, far more nicely than necessary! You're doing people a favour - if they don't take it well it's their problem not yours. So thank you again :)

after slight mortification, i've decided that it's probably the best thing to happen to me all day too, haha. what a funny coincidence!

thanks for being a person who takes concrit well--imo, that's what makes a good writer even better.

(ok, i need to ask, why did you pick german? was it a nod at "reichenbach"/"rich brook"? excuse me while i turn the last of the rant post into a discussion post...)

(Anonymous) 2012-02-05 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
Psh, why mortification for you? I'm the one who's been making the mistake.

No real reason for the German, just that I have the vague idea that canonically ACD Holmes speaks it. That and I leant German in school and I quite like it, which isn't really a reason.

(Anonymous) 2012-02-05 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
haha, i guess i was worried that i was much harsher in the rant environment than i wanted to be in my review.

i learned german in school too! probably why it particularly freaked me out, i feel connected to the language after studying it so closely for so long. so, perfectly valid reasons.

Frankly I don't see how you could have said it any nicer. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm nothing but grateful. You've let me improve my fic :) anyone who wouldn't appreciate your comment is an ingrate.

I'm glad for the extra freaky! To be honest I don't even know what's effective any more since I appear immune to all of it.

I DID NOT KNOW THAT "RICH BROOK" THING. IS THAT REALLY WHAT REICHENBACH MEANS? DID THEY POINT THAT OUT IN THE EP, OR DO YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW GERMAN TO CATCH IT? (ANON HAS ONLY WATCHED THE EP ONCE, AND WITH LOTS OF CHIT-CHATTERING FAMILY AROUND.)

It was pointed out in the episode, during the scene on the roof. I know German and I missed it until that point.
