megaupload worries

The whole megaupload thing is targeting the people in charge, right? Someone with an non-paid account who had downloaded but never uploaded anything isn't in legal danger, right?

Omfg, how many times do we have to repeat: it depends on where you live. Check your country's own laws for details. Meme is not google.

You will be in legal danger, because what you did is illegal in the US.

But they will go after the big fish first, so that is the owners of the sites, then they will go after the big up-loaders, the smaller up-loaders, the big down-loaders and then they will end up with the smaller down-loaders.

They might want to make an example of a few down-loaders, but you would have to be very unlucky to be picked out.

I read somewhere in a statement that one of the prosecutors/whoever said "But we're not going after people who have downloaded a few movies."

So if all you're doing is downloading a few things, I think you're fine. It's mostly the people doing massive amounts.
