PASSWORDS >:C

(Anonymous) 2012-01-20 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I have too many of them. Passwords.

To log into my laptop. To open the file with all my writing on. To open Firefox. One for each of my six email accounts (five I use on a daily basis). Friend's email account. Livejournal. Dreamwidth. Two for Fanfiction.net. AO3. Waterstones. Amazon. Apple store. Banking - two passwords and a PIN. University number. Facebook. Twitter. Railway travel account.

And I can't use the same password twice. I just can't. Not even variations of the same. I'm rubbish at remembering things! I have to think to remember my own age half the time! A little while ago a forgot my Livejournal password. I'd been using it multiple times a day for months but no - I had absolutely no idea. Had to change it in the end to something completely new. I think very soon my brain will collapse in on itself and I'll forget every one of my passwords and then I'll be utterly screwed.

Confession: I just bother to remember my email ones, and then tell my other services to send a password reminder whenever I forget. I've had to be "reminded" of my library password every single time I've logged in, which is definitely more than...40 times?

Haha, yeah. These are just the passwords I remember. All the rest I have to get sent reminders for.

Write them down on sticky notes. Maybe use the pigpen cipher so nobody but you, Sherlock and Moriarty can read them.

I couldn't do that. For a start I'm rubbish at ciphers and I know a lot of very clever people who could work out my simple ones if they had half a mind to.

Of course I know no one would actually bother but RRRRG no. Writing them down in any form. They die with me.

I have all mine in a document on my computer (without notes indicating what sites they're for, so sometimes that gets interesting). And then all I have to do is remember the password for that document.

I could (bet I'd forget the document password though), but writing down any of them anywhere seems too horrific.
