No real directions, but this isn't a place for debate. It's a place for RANTIN' AND RAVIN'.

There is a rule: There is to be no calling out anyone by name in Rants, Chatter, or on the Meme itself. This only produces an atmosphere of animosity and it is no longer tolerated. If you see any names being ranted about, please link us at Page-A-Mod. Thanks! :)

Please do not use this post or any other posts in the meme for sharing of download or streaming of links that aren't the official source of the content.

Head canon: Mycroft took care of Sherlock in lieu of Mummy, was bossy and anal, and Sherlock both depended on and resented him because he wasn't Mummy (she had mental health issues?). When Mycroft hit mid- or late adolescence, he found out he was gay in a big big way, and Sherlock, deducing or discovering it, and being a child, revealed it to Mummy in some spectacularly tactless way. He continued to needle Mycroft about his sexuality, even as he decided to squelch his own (if he ever had one), and lorded his supposed superiority in this matter over his brother. Mycroft continued to try to dominate and boss Sherlock, but it got less and less effective over time. He was hurt by the betrayal and by the harassment, but still feels that frustrated bond of unappreciated obligation and love. (Being the older sibling of a wayward kid, I totally understand that.) Both of them are damaged, and have bandaged it over with the macho "superiority" of intimidating chilliness. Sherlock is more self-absorbed and selfish than Mycroft, but is actually more emotional, impulsive, theatrical. Mycroft is more open and compassionate (behind the facade), and began early on to seek power rather than applause. He's aso more vulnerable to manipulation. Old family dynamics.

Oh, Sherlock and John. Instantly comfortable with each other, dysfunctionally compatible but in a benign way. John has a huge crush on Sherlock, and Sherlock is slowly learning to appreciate John's sterling qualities, to treat John with care, and to relax into being cared for. Cracking open his crust, a bit. Still, he's manipulative and mischievous, and isn't very thoughtful about how he treats John. He's not great at empathy. But he is becoming a grownup, a bit late. When it comes right down to abandoning his friend, deliberately destroying his trust and causing him to suffer, though, his respect for and attachment to John tear him to pieces. Boo hoo. Maybe that's the big empathy breakthrough.
