John is sent to fight in an interstellar war, while Sherlock remains behind in London. They communicate through texts, but as John travels further and further away the time-lag between messages stretches from hours, to days, to years.

Bonus if Sherlock realizes he's in love with John after he spends three years waiting for one text (or vice versa).
