Your opinion is wanted.

Okay. So I've been super-busy with family and holidays and not gotten to tinkering with things yet, but it has been brought to my attention that some people prefer this comment style to what the workarounds are, or would prefer something closer to this than something closer to the old style. So please, make your opinion known.

In addition, no decisions have been made yet and any decision would be loudly announced, but I wanted to get a feeling of what current meme-users think of LJ, DW, and the kink meme. So please vote for that question too.

[Poll #1805672]

Also, please feel free to use the comments of this post for discussion. I will be reading them.

voting for the xmen_firstkink layout

I don't have an LJ so I can't vote in the poll, but I like that comm's layout a lot. I almost can't tell it's not the old layout.

+1? Is that how voting is done in comments?

Current style - visited links

[identity profile] randomly-rusted.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
The only thing that makes the current style unusable for me is that for some reason the comment page links do not change colour after being visited.

So I can't tell which bits of the current prompt post I have seen, or which pages of the rant/discussion in flat view I am up to.

So I'm using it in my own style right now because that does show visited links in different colours.

The Xmen style also shows visited links in different colours.

Re: Current style - visited links

[identity profile] laren01.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 10:27 am (UTC)(link)
That's exactly my point too. I think the new one looks nicer, but it's not usable for me without changing link colors when visiting them.

It doesn't matter what layout we use, but can we switch the font back to verdana or to arial if we continue with the current one?

I don't really mind the new layout. I quite like it. Just please don't move! The Cabin Pressure meme is leaving and I don't want to loose another.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-27 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
yes! let's just give it more time, at least. the CP comm decided to pick up and move a little too quickly imo. :(

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
I'm actually in favour of a move to DW. Community import will be available as of next week (restricted to paid accounts for the first couple of weeks, but will be unrestricted after that) so moving the meme wouldn't be a problem.

Just throwing that out there.

[identity profile] snowishness.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
It's actually not a problem anyway, because the meme is a journal as opposed to a comm. So we can already import.

This layout is functional enough, but I definitely find the old version easier to read. The grey isn't enough of a contrast for my eyes.

Also, for some reason you can't do small text anymore. I don't know if that's the comment layout or an overall livejournal change.

[identity profile] snowishness.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's a comment layout thing, I guess.

I was completely changing it as soon as I got a chance to catch my breath (my main priority was making sure we could use subjects and everything) but now that I have a chance to actually sit down at the computer... some people have stated that they prefer this, so I thought I'd see what people overall thought.

Please remove the side navigation column; it takes up a lot of space. I'd rather be using that area for reading comments. But also, if I'm writing in one window and scrolling in this one, a huge chunk of my screen is eaten by a large grey wall. :/ I just want a manageable layout, no preference on how.

I'll stick around regardless if the meme is on DW or LJ. I love DW though.

[identity profile] cearney.livejournal.com 2011-12-25 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
I actually like the new layout, but if it would go back to the old one that's fine too. I do hope though that you don't move DW (please).

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
I've actually rather got used to what it is like now (but I wouldn't be opposed to something it was like before). The sidebar I've found very useful as it makes navigating to different prompt and other
posts much easier for me, but I was sceptical at first.

I've looked at DW and I've found it very... clunky and slow to use compared to LJ (on its good days!), and who's to tell whether DW wouldn't have similar issues one day. But I would follow if you moved there.

And mods, you have done a great job in adressing the problems.

Didn't vote on first part of the poll because I don't mind either way. I quite like the new layout you have but then again I liked the old one to.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
My only beef with the current theme is that the comment section is too narrow. And as for moving to DW. I am no objection. If that's the only option.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care about LJ or DW (I'd use the meme wherever) but I really like how everything is to the left. I'd love to see a layout similar to this but a bid wider.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
I would be sad about the move to DW for a number of reasons: loss of ability to search journal unless you are a paid member, reading page is clumsy and awkward, and the potential loss of contributors.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
1. I prefer the layout on the link and I think it's more user-friendly, but I don't really care.

2. Realistically, I'd probably just forget to check up on any DW site. I'm not leaving LJ anytime soon, and certainly not over the new comment style (for the record, I'm not a fan but it's not flounce-worthy enough for me).

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd prefer the old style, and I'd really prefer the meme stayed on LJ... I browse the meme a lot (A LOT) while I'm at work, and LJ is accessible while DW is blocked (which doesn't make a lot of sense, but very little about my job does). Additionally, while I'm on my work browser, I cannot seem to change from my username to anon for commenting while I'm logged in. The drop-down menu just doesn't drop down when I click on it. So put me down for the old style on LJ!

(Anonymous) 2011-12-25 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I would highly prefer that we stay on LJ. I have no intentions of leaving LJ, and I really don't like having to check back and forth between LJ and DW. DW just doesn't have enough of my friends to warrant me moving. So please stay here. Otherwise I don't much care what the comments look like. :D

Dreamwidth--a journaling site based on the LJ base code that's explicitly meant to be fandom-friendly.

Everything looks great to me.

I don't mind the layout either way, but can the font be changed to back to Verdana/to a point or two larger/both/back to Old LJ's default? This layout's font/size of font is a bit hard for me to read. :-(

I'm mad at LJ at the moment, but not enough to go to DW permanently and/or exclusively (I do have a back-up journal there, though). So I'd prefer staying, despite it all.

I do appreciate the promptness of everything you've done in response to all this! :-D

If you're using Firefox, holding down ctrl while scrolling with the mouse wheel will increase or decrease the size of the page you're looking at - it's certainly helped me, maybe it will help you?

Old format with the blue blocks, yes. I prefer that.

I prefer not to move to DW. But I'm in a wait and see sort of mind now. I don't like what I'm hearing about LJ being increasingly hostile towards fandom, so if they continue to bring in dickish moves like removing our comment lines, then ask again and I'll reluctantly say yes, let's go to DW.

But right now, I'm voting to stay on LJ.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU, MODS! I can read everything now :)))

(Anonymous) 2011-12-26 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
The main thing I have against moving journals is that I rely very heavily on the paid members thread tracking feature for high traffic memes like this one, and I do not like the idea of paying for two journaling sites. If the majority of my memes don't move, I'll probably end up losing interest in this one because I'm unable to keep up.

[identity profile] randomly-rusted.livejournal.com 2011-12-27 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
One minor thing which I don't even know if you can fix...

Used to be when I hit the pin icon to track a comment thread I would be taken immediately to a set of options to track in email or inbox or messaging or whatever.

Now it defaults to email and I have to click an options link to track it only in my LJ inbox which I prefer.

Would be great to have it back the old way, but as I say I have no idea if that's even possible.

[identity profile] ologist.livejournal.com 2012-01-16 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't know if you're still having this problem but what I do is just track it to email, then once you're done for the day go to message settings and click right at the top for inbox notifications (making everything send to inbox) and clicking at the top twice for email (clearing the check boxes for everything.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-28 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
One of my friends reports that she can no longer access the meme. I don't mind what you do as long as I can still access the site. Oh, and please put the dates back on, it makes it difficult to follow a thread without the dates. Speaking as an older reader, the layout suits my poor eyesight so as long as you don't start posting in Windings or something it's fine by me. Thank you.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-28 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I see you already put the dates back on. Sorry. Thank you.
