Charles Augustus Magnussen is a strange and complex man, one that not even Mycroft has much power against. Because most...villains in life have simple and predictable wants: money, power, prestige, sex - but Magnussen isn't interested in them. Oh he likes them all and makes sure he has them, but they are not what drives him.

But all that changes when he meets Sherlock and he wants...needs Sherlock. It is of no matter that the virgin detective is foolishly pinning after that fool Dr John Watson who is blindly ignorant of both Sherlock's feelings and his own wife's dark past, and shooting of Sherlock.

Sherlock and Dr Watson's relationship is strained to say the least and Magnussen knows just what pressure points to apply to break that relationship forever. After all if the good doctor won't see what's under his nose then he doesn't deserve to keep it, and Magnuessen is very good at looking after his things.
