I'd be happy to read an omegaverse where John is an Alpha and is younger than Sherlock. Sherlock is an Omega of about 35 y.o., while John can be about 18 or so. Sherlock hates his secondary gender and maybe has never had sex. His heats are nightmarish and he always deals with them on his own. He doesn't want to bond, breed and belong to some arsehole. John is different though, so, eventually, Sherlock gives in (Why not? 1. John isn't some rich, influential Alpha, who can use all of it to subdue Sherlock. 2. John's age makes him more open-minded and he wouldn't treat an Omega as property. 3. John is still very much an Alpha, a strong one). They can even bond.
John has got some experience. Well, I imagine he's had some Betas, but maybe he's had Omegas, too, without bonding with them, so he knows how to take care of an Omega.
It's fine if, instead of never having anybody before John, Sherlock, when he was younger, used to be bonded to some powerful Alpha (Magnussen? Or an OC?) against his will, who abused him and considered him a property. Maybe Mycroft, eventually, put an end to it and the bond was broken. Other Alphas, who know about Sherlock's past, consider him damaged goods, not that he'd ever let any of them get close to him.
