Abo johnlock - knotting was a painful experience for Sherlock and he avoids it

John is Sherlock's alpha but due to past unfortunate experiences, Sherlock now avoids them like mad. He might trust and love John but the second he feels that John might knot him, Sherlock panics. It's very distressing to both of them in different ways. John feels he is incapable of being a protective enough alpha for his mate and Sherlock feels terrible for not being able to take his mates knot etc etc

They talk about it often, trying to talk it through, seeing what john could do to make Sherlock safe or whatever and then finally they try it. It takes a few times though, due to Sherlock's anxiety and fear and panic but eventually Sherlock does (in a fit of tears probably). John is there all the way being very supportive.

When finally one day they knot with no crying or angsty dramatics, they get a call from a case they are working on about a criminal and they just NEED TO GET GOING ASAP. Except they just knotted.... Sherlock knows time is of the essence and he bravely tells john they need to force a separation - a physically and mentally painful thing that has lasting effects.

They close the case and everything but wonder if it was worth it - Sherlock's suffered from bleeding, lack of alpha hormones that is transferred during knotting to stabilise omegas emotions and hormone control etc, and once again, he fears knotting which really is a toll on the both of them as they worked so hard to overcome it. All and anything else!
