Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Sherlock and John in a new shiny relationship full of passionate kisses and lots of emotion, but I'm curious as to what would happen years later, when maybe they're not as affectionate as they used to be.

I'd love to read something where John always needs some form of affection and closeness, but Sherlock can go long periods of time without it, and this starts to put a strain on their relationship. John begins to fear that Sherlock has become bored of him, and things just get real angsty, but in the end they work it out and Sherlock makes sure they both get what they need.
