Well, once you rule out the mundane (meaning everyday, not boring) things for the power outage, for example, start working with the supernatural. How old is your place? Maybe something occurred there in the past? Or maybe it's a family member attached to one of y'all who wants to make themselves known. Try telling them that, while you appreciate they are upset with their situation, this is *your* house/apartment and *you* live there. They can either play nice and share the space kindly, or they can leave . Be firm because this is YOUR place. If they want to tell you something, or you feel that they do, ask them to be clear about it. Something I've done in the past is say they can take out whatever books I have that pertain to their situation and leave them on the table for me, or leave them open to something they need to say.
